Impact opens with Jeremy Borash standing by with Robert Roode and Payton Banks.
Borash asks Roode for his thoughts on his match with Booker T at Against All Odds
and Roode responds by doing a couple of impressions of Booker and Sharmell, complete
with a glass full of “liquid steak.” Borash isn’t amused and Roode says that Booker
T is likely grateful for what he did as it has kept Sharmell from bossing Booker
around the house and has taken a few pounds off of her body. It pays to be Roode.

The Impact intro hits as we are welcomed to this week’s show that will feature
Christian Cage vs. Judas Mesias, Johnny Devine vs. Homicide for the X Division title
and Black Reign against Kaz in a Four Corner Capture Misty match.

Robert Roode makes his way to the ring for a match against Jay Lethal until Booker T
comes out from the crowd and begins attacking Roode in the ringside area. Booker
chases Roode up the ramp and I guess this match is thrown out as we are immediately
taken to the announce table for some Against All Odds hype.

We head to Jim Cornette’s office where Matt Morgan is giving him an earful for
standing by and allowing Samoa Joe to attack him two weeks in a row. Cornette says
he won’t do anything about it as he is more concerned with getting Joe’s contract
signed. Cornette then warns Morgan that if he gets involved during the signing, he
will have to fire him.

Match 1: Traci Brooks vs. Awesome Kong (Non-title match)
The bell rings and Kong is distracted by ODB, who appears on the big screen and
tells Kong that her under arm stench is stronger than she is and that she can’t wait
to get in the ring with her at Against All Odds. The distraction is enough for
Brooks to get a few quick chops in on Kong but ODB’s comments are enough to fuel to
get Kong fired up and go on the offensive. Brooks musters up enough strength to
begin a comeback, but all it takes is a spinning back fist and an Awesome Bomb for
Kong to win this one.

After the match Payton Banks enters the ring and finishes what is left of Brooks.
Security comes out to pull Banks off of her as we head to the back where we see
Borash running with Roode, who has Booker trailing after him. Booker says he
doesn’t want to wait three more days as Roode jumps in a car and squeals off.

Petey Williams and Scott Steiner are arguing with each other in Cornette’s office.
Cornette jumps in and tells them that at Against All Odds the two will face off in a
case vs. case match with the winner taking both cases.

Match 2: Black Reign vs. Kaz (Four Corner Capture Misty match)
Four poles with boxes are around the ring – three of the boxes will have mouse traps
in them, the other will contain Misty. Reign attacks Kaz before the bell rings and
tosses him into the guard rail. Reign climbs the ropes and tries for the first box
and sticks him hand into a mouse trap. To make matters worse, Kaz follows up by
driving Reign down to the mat with a powerbomb off the ropes. Kaz then goes for a
box and also falls victim to a mouse trap. After some back and forth action, Kaz
and Reign begin to fight on the ropes around one of the poles. Reign is able to
shove Kaz down to the floor and opens the box to reveal more mouse traps. Kaz then
crotches Reign on the top rope and climbs up and grabs Misty out of the fourth box
to win the match. After the match, though, Reign nails Kaz with his Darkness Falls
club and snatches Misty back.

Jeremy Borash is standing by with Booker T who says that Sharmell has asked him to
beat the hell out of Roode for what he did to her. Booker says that this match at
Against All Odds is personal and apologizes to TNA management and fans for what may
happen, and promises that it will be a night that Roode will never forget.

A video package airs that highlights the feud between Team 3D and the X Division.
The X Division are shown taking a beating as the voice over guy says that the
Motorcity Machine Guns and Jay Lethal must truly go against all odds to keep the X
Division from disbanding forever. This leads us to what may very well be the last X
Division title defense on Impact.

Match 3: Johnny Devine vs. Homicide
The match starts and Homicide is able to knock Devine to the outside and follows
with a beautiful dive through the ropes that knocks Devine down to the ground once
again. Homicide controls to control most of the match with Devine showing small
flares of offense. Homicide scores a near fall on Devine after a swinging
neckbreaker and yet another one after a gringo stunner, but Devine is able to kick
out of the nonchalant cover by Homicide.

Homicide comes back with a Gringo Killer on Devine and goes for the cover, but Team
3D enters the ring and the referee calls for the bell. Due to new TNA rules, the
champion now retains the title after a disqualification, thus Devine will hold on to
the X Division title. Hernandez comes out to help his partner and chases Team 3D
out of the ring, which leaves him alone with Devine and gives him a Border Toss that
sends Devine soaring through the air.

Christian Cage is backstage with Crystal and calls Tomko out to the ring to have one
last face to face to see where he truly stands in TNA.

Jim Cornette is standing in the ring and a table has been set up for a contract
signing. Samoa Joe, along with Kevin Nash, comes down to the ring where Cornette is
standing with the contract, and a pen, awaiting Joe’s signature. As Joe is about to
sign, Kurt Angle’s music hits as the World Champion and his wife make their way
towards the ring. Angle warns Joe that if he causes him to lose his title on
Sunday, it will be the last thing he ever does. Joe says that due to the respect he
has for Angle, he will call it down the middle and then sends Angle crashing through
the table. Joe then leaves without signing the contract yet again.

The Rock n’ Rave Infection begins holding an impromptu concert backstage as Borash
is trying to hold an interview with them. Christy Hemme begins singing renditions
of Barracuda and Pour Some Sugar on Me as Lance Hoyt claims to be freeballing.
Yikes. This leads us into the next match.

Match 4: Rock n’ Rave Infection vs. Curry Man & Shark Boy
Shark Boy & Curry Man each take a turn at working over their opponents. Curry Man
begins pounding on Hoyt in a corner as Rave tries to help his partner and ends up
hitting Hoyt instead. Curry Man then goes after Rave and walks right into a big
boot from Hoyt. The RnR Infection begins working over Curry Man in their corner
until he is able to counter into a jawbreaker and makes the tag to his partner.
Shark Boy comes in and delivers a stunner to Hoyt as Curry Man gives the Spice Rack
to Rave. Shark Boy then covers Rave for the win.

Tomko is with Crystal and he accepts Cage’s offer to meet in the ring to see what he
has to say, and that’s all he has to say about that.

After a commercial break, Crystal is standing by with BG James & Bob Armstrong. BG
says that the two of them are focused and at Against All Odds, they will be taking
on a team that has lost its focus. BG then tells the tag team champs to shine the
belts up nice as they will be taking them on Sunday. Kip stops by and wishes them
the best of luck and says that he is behind them.

Match 5: Tiger Mash vs. AJ Styles
Prior to the match, AJ Styles gets on the microphone and publically apologizes to
the Angle’s for what happened last week when he was appointed the special guest
referee in Angle’s match against Tomko and pleads to have his key back to the Angle
dressing room.

The match begins and Tiger Mask is in control and is able to send Styles crashing
down to the arena floor by sidestepping Styles as he was charging at Tiger Mask.
Tiger Mask is about to dive out to the floor, but Styles is able to recover and pull
Tiger Mask out to the floor instead. Styles tries to toss Tiger Mask into the guard
rail, but Tiger Mask reverses it but Styles is able to hop the railing to avoid
making contact with it. Styles then springboards off the railing and nails Tiger
Mask with a flying forearm to gain control of the match up.

Back in the ring, Styles attempts to unmask his opponent but instead has his hand
bitten. The two begin trading control of the match and scoring near falls until
Styles is able to send Tiger Mask into referee Rudy Charles, who is knocked down by
the blow. With the ref down, Style delivers a low blow to Tiger Mask and follows
with the Styles Clash for the pin fall.

Christian Cage comes down to the ring to meet Tomko face-to-face. Cage applauds
Tomko for wanting to be his own man but he wants to know where things stand between
the two of them. Cage turns around and gives Tomko an opportunity at a free shot,
but Tomko refuses to hit him, although it appears that he would like to. Tomko
instead turns Cage around and leaves the ring.

Match 6: Christian Cage vs. Judas Mesias
Cage and Mesias fight back and forth in the opening minutes of the match. Cage is
able to get Mesias out to the floor and lands some hard chops on him on the outside.
Back in the ring, though, Mesias is able to return the favor by delivering a press
slam to Cage that sends him flying out to the floor as we head into a commercial
break.

We return to see Mesias still on the attack on the outside before returning to the
ring and getting only a one count on Cage after delivering a power slam. Mesias
then begins to utilize the referee’s five count and softens Cage up with some
illegal maneuvers. Cage makes his way back into the match after sidestepping a
charging Mesias in which Mesias rams himself into the ring post. Cage begins to
climb the ropes, but Mitchell pokes him with his cane. The distraction is enough
time to allow Mesias to recover and catch Cage in air with a neckbreaker.

Abyss begins to walk towards the ring with his fist wrapped in barbed wire and
begins chasing James Mitchell to the backstage area. The distraction is enough to
allow Cage to land the Unprettier on Mesias and Cage picks up the three count.

After the match, Abyss returns to the ring and chases Mesias back up the ramp. With
Cage still standing in the ring, AJ Styles comes in from behind and attacks his
former friend. Cage retaliates and puts Styles in the sharpshooter until Angle
comes out kicks Cage in the back. Angle & Styles begin teaming up on Cage until
Tomko comes to the ring and clears them out. Tomko then stands Cage up and shakes
his hand to show Angle and Styles whose side he is on as Impact comes to a close.

Starman’s Thoughts
Tonight’s show was a huge improvement over last week’s broadcast, and what better
time to have that happen than just a mere three days before the next pay-per-view
event. It was amazing, in my mind, to see a very strong build up to nearly ALL of
the matches that are to take place at Against All Odds. Usually, we only get to see
maybe one or two being built upon in the final weeks, but tonight we got one huge
send-off to Against All Odds.

Let’s start from the top – Roode and Booker T got a lot of air time in the opening
quarter of the show and this feud appears to have lit a new fire with Booker T,
which is great to see. Next we got to see ODB tell Kong that she wasn’t afraid of
her as Kong looked dominate yet again in her match. It was unfortunate to see Traci
Brooks on the receiving end of the punishment, but that left an opening for Payton
Banks to pick up the scraps leaving the fans wanting to see more of these two at the
pay-per-view.

We also got a new match booked between Scott Steiner and Petey Williams, which will
be for both of the Feast or Fired briefcases, Joe sent Angle a special enforcer
message by slamming him through a table, and the James Gang got some TV time and
pointed out that they have been training together as a team while the current tag
team champs have been having their differences.

Speaking of the tag champs, we found out what side Tomko is on as Cage gained some
momentum by defeating the big monster, Judas Mesias, who was also being chased
around by Abyss with a fist full of barbed wire.

Wow, all of that build up on one show? Plus, not one mention of the WWE! What
happened to the usual booking squad?

In all seriousness, if you are keeping track, every single match signed on for the
pay-per-view got at least a moments worth of attention with the exception of the
Eric Young/James Storm match for the Beer Drinking Championship. That match
probably didn’t need much more of a buildup than it has already gotten.

In all of tonight’s greatness, however, there were also a few blemishes which
brought tonight’s show down a bit. For starters, let me bring up the match between
Kaz and Black Reign. Sure, this feud has been getting some steam as of late, but
tonight’s match between them was horrible, but it’s not entirely their fault either.

You can try to mask the match type by calling it a Four Corners match (which is odd
in itself, since the ring really has six corners), but all in all, it is a pole
match, and everyone knows the only good type of pole match is the coal miners glove
match. Kidding aside, in the end the match was pretty much pointless as Kaz was
declared the winner, yet Black Reign knocked him out and stole Misty back anyway.
So, tell me, why did I have to sit through this match again?

Moving on to the other downer of the night – the Rock n’ Rave Infection as a whole.
Seriously, this has got to stop. It’s not entertaining nor is it worthwhile as they
do nothing but lose matches anyway. Not to mention, the Guitar Hero gimmick has
only been around for a few weeks and it has already gotten stale. I will admit that
I enjoyed how Mike Tenay was begging for Hemme to not grab the microphone. I was
begging them to kill this storyline. It’s funny how neither of us got our wish
tonight.

Overall, tonight’s show was one of the better Impacts I have seen over the last few
months, and it was nice to see some new matches for a change. The Styles/Tiger Mask
match was fun to watch and Styles is showing some signs of life aside from being a
lackey. Plus, we got a refreshing X Division match that looks like it may reopen
the feud between the LAX and Team 3D. If TNA can keep up with these kinds of shows,
things may start looking up for the company as a whole.

Glad to see Homicide hit the Gringo Killer again. A big "OUCH!" for Devine.
