Jim Haslett was let go after amassing a 45-51 record in New Orleans.
ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Jim Haslett, fired by the New Orleans Saints after six seasons as head coach, on Tuesday was named defensive coordinator for the St. Louis Rams.

Greg Olsen was hired as offensive coordinator. He spent the past two seasons with Detroit, first as quarterbacks coach then as co-offensive coordinator.

Both will work under Scott Linehan, hired last week as the head coach.

Haslett coached against the Rams twice a year when the Saints and Rams were both in the NFC West. The Saints' playoff win over the Rams in 2000 ended St. Louis' quest for a second straight Super Bowl title.

It was the only playoff win in Saints history, and Haslett was the NFL coach of the year.

Haslett was 45-51 at New Orleans with only the one playoff appearance.

Olsen is 42, the same age as Linehan. He was quarterbacks coach at San Francisco in 2001, and at Chicago in 2003. Linehan, the former offensive coordinator in Miami and Minnesota, has said that he will call plays

Although he is a great co-ordinator i thought that Jim Haslett would be moving on to take up a head coaching job with another possibly the Bills or possibly the Raiders. Now he has signed to run the Rams defence is takes out another experienced candidate for the Raiders job.
