One of the most dominating champions in the UFC today, has to be Matt Hughes. Ever since winning the Welterweight championship from Carlos Newton courtesy of a power bomb, he as been on fire (aside from a hiccup against BJ Penn). He has a record of 41-4. Also, Hughes defeated Royce Gracie at UFC 60 in under 5 minutes. It will be interesting to see if George St.Pierre will be able to stop the reign of Hughes at UFC 63.

Another dominating champion is Rich Franklin. Ranked among the best fighters of the UFC, he currently holds the Middleweight Championship. With a record of 22-1 in his MMA career, he holds a TKO victory over Ken Shamrock, the winner of the very first UFC tournament. He also has a bone-jarring KO win over Nate Quarry. (If you never saw this fight, do, you'll probably cringe at the knockout) Currently, he is injured, but he's supposed to return soon.

Chuck Liddel is the current Light Heavyweight Champion in the UFC. His record in MMA is 18-3, and he defeated Randy Couture at UFC 52 by knockout, to win his title, and then defended it against Jeremy Horn and then again agaisnt Randy Couture, both time coming out victorious. His next bout is against Renato "Babalu" Sobral, who he knocked out with a kick to the head at UFC 40.

Another force to be reckoned with is the new Heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia. He won his title at UFC 59, and then defended it at UFC 61 against Arlovski. Before him, Arlovski looked unstoppable, and beating him seemed impossible. Nevermind beating him twice! Sylvia is a big man, who trains hard beside Matt Hughes and finally reached the highest level of achievement.

So those are the champions, now who is their competition?

The Welterwight division is full of depth regarding the skill of the fighters. Diego Sanchez , since winning Ultimate Fighter and gaining a contract in the UFC, Sanchez is currently undefeated. He is scheduled to fight another strong competitor Karo Parisyan. Parisyan was scheduled to fight Matt Hughes at UFC 56, but was pulled from the card due to injury during training. Another top fighter in the Welterweight division is Georges St.Pierre. He is scheduled for a title shot at UFC 63. St.Pierre has a record of 12-1, his only loss coming from the current Welterweight champion Matt Hughes due to armbar. Since his loss, he has grown tremendously as a fighter, and is ready to challenged Hughes in what hopes to be an awesome rematch.

The Middleweight division contains powerhouses such as the experienced Jeremy Horn, who took Matt Hughes under his wing and taught him all that he knew. Horn has had over 100 MMA fights, and has a record of 87-14-6. Horn also has a chokehold victory over the current Light Heavyweight champion Chuck Liddel. Another up-and-comer in the Middleweight division is Kendall Grove. Everyone believed Grove the underdog at the finale of Ultimate Fighter 3, and despite the odds, defeated favorite Ed Herman in decision. Another fighter that is dominating the Middleweight division is Mike "Quick" Swick. With an incredibly deep arsenal of strikes and submissions, none of his UFC fights have lasted longer than half of the first round. And another fighter that should have an eye kept on him is the fairly unknown Anderson Silva. He stormed into the UFC world with an exclamation mark, when he knocked out the notoriously hard-chinned Chris Leben in 49 seconds of the first round. All of these fighters and more are a threat to Rich Franklin.

In the Light Heavyweight division there is of course Renato Sobral, who is scheduled for a title shot against Chuck Liddel at UFC 62. This is a rematch from UFC 40, when he was KO'd by Liddel from a kick to the head. Also scheduled for UFC 62 is Stephen Bonnar and Forest Griffin, again a rematch, this time from the first Ultimate Fighter show. Bonnar defeated Griffin in a split decision, but due to the tremendous showmanship of the match, both were awarded contracts to the UFC. Another force in the Light Heavyweight division is the newly-inspired and invigorated Tito Ortiz. He was the Light Heavyweight champion until losing it to Randy Couture at UFC 44. Ortiz also holds 2 victories over Ken Shamrock, although one is highly disputed, the first was without doubt.

The Heavyweight division has slightly less depth than most divisions, but that does not take away from their skill. Frank Mir, who is recovering from the shock of a motorcycle accident, does not seem up to skill level before his accident. He has a victory over Tim Sylvia via armbar at UFC 48. Mir also has a victory over legendary UFC brawler Tank Abbot at UFC 41. Another undefeated fighter whose roots are from the Ultimate Fighter series is Rashaad Evans. Evans is 9-0 in MMA, and has a victory over Ultimate Fighter semi-finalist Sam Hoger. Jeff Monson is a lot of power packed into a small frame for a Heavyweight fighter. Monson has a record of 23-5 in the octagon, and has suffered a unanimous decision lost to Chuck Liddel. Monson is famous for his ground and pound and is an impressive and dominating fighter. Another up-and-comer is Brandon "The Truth" Vera. He is a crowd favorite who has shown that he has potential to do great things. With a record of 17-0, he has victories coming from TKO, KO, and also submission. A versatile fighter who will be capable of great things in his career as an MMA fighter. And last, but certainly not least, is the former champ Andrei Arlovski. His record is 11-4, but the way he dominated the Heavyweight division, the numbers do not properly describe his skill. It wouldn't be surprising to see a future title shot planned for "The Pitbull" in the future. He is out for 8-10 weeks due to injuries sustained from his last war with Tim Sylvia, in which he lost by unanimous decision.

It's my first opinionated post, so tell me what you think. If you like it, there might be more in the future :dunno: . Also, add some guys you think that I missed, shame on me. Most of the stats came from UFC.com by the way, just thought I would add that in case people accuse me of plagarism and such evil-doings. Well I'm out, chillax.
