It's got a fun green-light thing and plugs into the console via USB - but it has limitations

Datel has unveiled an external hard drive for Microsoft's Xbox 360 console. 4Gb in capacity and connecting to the 360 via USB, it's rumoured that its recommended retail price will be set at around 99 GBP - which seems ridiculously steep considering the official 20Gb HDD sets you back 70 quid. Initial reaction has been less than favourable, so far the only real positive thing being said about it being its design.

According to our pals over at Lik-Sang.com, Datel's drive lacks features sported by Microsoft's official Xbox 360 hard drive. Packaging for the 4Gb unit describes its as a "portable data storage" unit that can be used to store "1,000's of songs and over 5,000 images!" - so unlike the official hard drive, it can't store game saves and can't be used for online/Xbox Live stuff. It's a fancy-looking media files transfer device, then.

An official price point and release date remains unconfirmed.
