LAS VEGAS (Ticker) - Carlos Baldomir is the latest to try and make a splash against unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The camps of Baldomir and Mayweather threw water at each other at a news conference for Saturday's 12-round WBC welterweight title fight at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

The incident occurred Wednesday after Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's advisor, offered some fighting words regarding the prospective outcome.

Floyd has said that Baldomir has two options to go out - on his face or on his (rear)," Ellerbe said. "Well, there is a third way he can go out."

According to fightnews.com, a member of Mayweather's camp then raised a white flag, prompting Javier Zapata, baldomir's trainer, to throw his glass of water at Ellerbe. Mayweather responded by splashing Zapata and members of his camp with his glass of water.

Mayweather later apologized and shook hands with his rivals, and order was restored - at least until Saturday night, when the titleholders step into the ring in a bout televised by HBO pay-per-view.

Despite being the heavy underdog, Baldomir (43-9-6, 13 KOs) is the champion, having won the belt with a decision over fading Zab Judah in January and retaining it with a ninth-round technical knockout of slugger Arturo Gatti in July.

Baldomir has not lost in 20 straight fights since 1999, an impressive streak that still pales in comparison to the accomplishments of Mayweather (36-0, 24 KOs), who has taken care of all comers.

Considered the best pound-for-pound fighter, Mayweather won the IBF welterweight title with a chaotic decision over Judah in April but relinquished the belt to take this bout.

In the 10th round, Judah threw a low bloe and a rabbit punch, which brought Roger Mayweather, Floyd's trainer, into the ring, where he scuffled with Judah's father and trainer, Yoel Judah. Police were needed to break things up, and the bout continued.

Roger Mayweather was fined $200,000 and suspended one year from working the corner during fights by the Nevada Athletic Commission. A rematch was ordered, but Judah was suspended a month later, and Floyd Mayweather vacated the title June 20.

On the undercard, Robert Guerrero (19-1-1, 12 KOs) makes the first defense of his IBF featherweight title against Orlando Salido (27-9-2, 18 KOs).

Also, unbeaten welterweight Paul Williams (31-0, 23 KOs) takes on Mauro Lucero (42-11-1, 28 KOs).
