Sam Madison had 31 interceptions in nine seasons with the Dolphins.
The New York Giants have agreed to a four-year deal with former Miami Dolphins cornerback Sam Madison, his agent said Friday.

The nine-year veteran, who was cut by Miami last week, will receive a $2 million signing bonus plus base salaries of $900,000 in the first year of the contract, $1.2 million in the second year, $1.5 million in the third year and $1.8 million in the final year, according to agent Drew Rosenhaus.

Madison also will receive a $250,000 bonus each season he has four or more interceptions, Rosenhaus said.

Through a spokesman, Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi declined comment on the deal.

Rosenhaus said his client "is very happy to be with the Giants."

"They were an excellent team last year. It's a chance to go to a contender and an opportunity to be a starter," Rosenhaus said.

Madison had 31 interceptions in nine seasons with the Dolphins and was the first cornerback in the team's history to make the Pro Bowl. He adds experience to a Giants secondary that lost safety Brent Alexander to retirement and is expected to lose cornerback Will Allen to free agency.

In addition, veteran cornerback Will Peterson is coming back from a back injury that forced him to miss most of last season.

The Giants finished 11-5 and won the NFC East last season but suffered from shaky play in the secondary from rookie Corey Webster and second-year pro Curtis Deloatch filling in for Peterson.
