Pete Doherty arrived late to the court hearing
Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty has pleaded guilty in a London court to possession of Class A drugs.
He appeared at Ealing Magistrates' Court to face charges of possessing heroin and cocaine.

The 26-year-old was arrested by police after he was spotted driving a speeding car in west London on 30 November.

The former Libertines singer has continually been in the headlines over his drug abuse and his relationship with model Kate Moss.

He is due to reappear at Ealing Magistrates Court on 8 February.

The prosecution said police pulled Mr Doherty over after he was spotted speeding and officers said he had a glazed look.

He was found to have three packets of heroin, with a weight of 0.875gm (0.03oz), and one packet containing 0.234gm (0.008oz) cocaine.

Late arrival

At the police station he tested positive for cocaine and opiates.

Mr Doherty's solicitor, Eamonn Sherry, was forced to apologise to the magistrates' bench after the singer arrived at the hearing more than an hour late.

"Mr Doherty travelled in a car and he had traffic difficulties and I am told was being followed by a number of other individuals," said Mr Sherry.

"Given the press activity that there is in relation to this gentleman, that is the reason."

Mr Doherty spent two months in jail in 2003 after being found guilty of burgling the home of former bandmate Carl Barat.

He vowed to give up drugs after spending four nights in a cell in Februrary 2005 after he was accused of blackmail and robbery. The charges were later dropped due to insufficient evidence.

Mr Doherty is travelling to Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, for a gig later on Wednesday.
