Kenny Omega vs. El Hijo del Vikingo 2 Set for AAA TripleMania XXXI: Tijuana
The highly anticipated rematch between Hijo del Vikingo and Kenny Omega is set as the bout is slated to take place AAA TripleMania XXXI: Tijuana.
Hijo del Vikingo will put his Mega Championship against the top AEW star, months after their clash on the March 22 episode of AEW Dynamite on TBS. The match was announced on Monday
This non-title match was marketed as a “Dream Match” by AEW when they revealed the bout last month. The match was l Vikingo's AEW debut.
Since then, Hijo del Vikingo has rebounded with two wins under the ROH banner by scoring victories over Blake Christian and Komander. His previous bout came at Supercard of Honor on WrestleMania weekend. He most recently got a win over Dralistico on the April 22 episode of Rampage.
Leading up to their first match, Omega said in an interview with Sports Illustrated that he thinks Vikingo is someone who is going to "change the way people think about wrestling and change the way we think about lucha libre."
Omega had a reign as the AAA Mega Champion that lasted for two years after winning it in October 2019 but vacated the title due to multiple injuries. The title was won by Vikingo in December 2021. Since then, he has held onto the gold for 500-days.
The promotion is holding the show over the course of three events including this past month’s event in Monterrey, July 15 in Tijuana, and August 12 in Mexico City. All of the events are available through FITE TV internationally.
