Few things get the football world of fans and media more excited than a public falling out between two big stars. When one big star calls another big star a liar, we have an unseemly public row that nobody comes out of very well and we all thoroughly enjoy!

This article at La Gazzetta explains just what is going on.

It is difficult to see how either party involved in this incident can move on sufficiently to continue a working relationship at Chelsea. The situation must be totally untenable for Lampard to remain at the club.

It seems that the two men had a conversation and whilst they both heard the same words, they have chosen to interpret them in very different ways.

Lampard, it would appear, remembers telling Scolari that he would love to stay at Chelsea but there is no way he is going to on the terms being currently offered. Scolari, however, appears to have heard the first part of that sentence about wanting to stay, but got distracted by something and failed to hear the second part!

Obviously only the people in the room at the time know what was actually said, but it is fun trying to speculate.

I don’t really understand what Scolari has got to gain by saying Lampard is staying if in fact he has made his intention to leave totally clear. Equally, I don’t understand what Lampard has got to gain by calling his new boss a liar, if he is, in fact, telling the truth.

It is all very confusing but the one thing for sure is that the two men are unlikely to be going out together for a beer and a Pizza tonight. (The reference to Pizza is purely coincidental to Lampard’s possible destination - Editor)

This is a real shame because Frank Lampard has been a great servant for Chelsea and he doesn’t deserve to leave in such acrimonious circumstances. He should be remembered fondly by the Chelsea faithful and not be a player who is roundly booed and jeered if he comes back with another club. This incident has the potential to make him a hated figure at the Bridge rather than a loved one.

It is also damaging to Scolari who made such a wonderful impression at his press conference the other day. The fact that he may not have been telling the whole truth will not endear him to those media boys who love ‘going after’ people.

I hope they can sort this mess out quickly and that both men can get on with their careers. Lampard will surely go to Inter where his former boss and biggest fan awaits and Scolari can get on with the difficult job of managing a Chelsea side who will only have Ballack, Essien, Deco, Malelele etc, in its midfield after Lamps’ departure.

It’ll be tough for both of them…!
