It's a barren run that no million-pound football star would ever want to endure.

But, in ending a three-year losing streak, Harraby Athletic's players have proved their dedication to the beautiful game has not been in vain.

The under-14 squad, dubbed Britain's worst football team, have just ended a 90-game losing run by defeating Edenvale Hawks 3-2.

Despite trailing 1-0 early in the game, the youngsters secured what they hope will be the first win of many.

Every season Harraby Athletic finish bottom of the table. In their first ever game they were thrashed 19-0 and when they collected a single point in the Longhorn Youth Football League in Carlisle last year, it was only because the opposing team didn't turn up.

While many managers might have thrown in the towel, coach Brett Preston and his players refused to be downhearted during their dry spell.

Mr Preston, who set up the team in 2006 with Billy Jackson, said: 'Pure determination has got us there. The boys' faces after the game meant everything.'
