Angry CM Punk Still Has "Major Heat" with Top WWE Superstars Amid AEW Exit

CM Punk's days with AEW are officially behind him, and a possible return to WWE may be easier said than done.

Punk was released from AEW this week, following an investigation into what transpired with Jack Perry at AEW All In last weekend. Punk and Perry had a backstage altercation that resulted in Punk using a chokehold on Perry. Speaking on AEW Collision this week, AEW President Tony Khan confirmed Punk's release and added that it was his decision alone.

With Punk no longer with AEW, WWE may be the only choice for Punk and his asking price if he still intends to wrestle. If so, that'll be easier said than done, as Fightful Select reports that Punk still has "major heat" with some of the company's top names.

Seth Rollins called Punk a "cancer " earlier this year due to the ex-AEW star's actions following All Out 2022. The reigning WWE World Heavyweight Champion also instructed Punk to stay away from WWE. Following his segment with Jey Uso at WWE Payback 2023, Grayson Waller referenced Punk's release from AEW on Twitter.

Those Fightful spoke to said there have been no expectations or plans for Punk to join WWE. Punk infamously walked out of WWE in 2014 following that year's Royal Rumble event. Punk would be issued his contract termination paperwork on his wedding day, timing Vince McMahon would later apologize for and call a complete coincidence.

There's no shortage of promotions around today, including Impact Wrestling, the NWA, and New Japan Pro Wrestling. However for Punk to join any of these companies, he would likely have to take a significant pay cut compared to what he was earning in AEW.
