A lightweight bout between Strikeforce vet Bobby Green (19-5 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and UFC regular Jacob Volkmann (15-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC) is now official for UFC 156.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) first reported the bout, and the promotion recently made it official.

UFC 156 takes place Feb. 2 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The event's main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.

Green vs. Volkmann is expected to be part of the preliminary card, though its exact placement hasn't been determined. Eight fights are now official for the event.

Green joins four Strikeforce athletes on their way to the UFC following the announcement that the smaller promotion is closing shop with a Jan. 12 event in Oklahoma City. During his time in the Strikeforce hexagon, the 26-year-old Green amassed an impressive 4-1 record, and in August he defeated Matt Ricehouse. A contentious loss to veteran Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante was his only setback.

The 32-year-old Volkmann, meanwhile, is on the rebound following a submission win over Shane Roller at UFC on FX 5, which eased the sting of a submission loss to Paul Sass. The defeat snapped a five-fight win streak that had the former welterweight on the verge of title contention.

The current UFC 156 card includes:
Champ Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar - for featherweight title
Rashad Evans vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
Alistair Overeem vs. Antonio Silva
Bobby Green vs. Jacob Volkmann
Joseph Benavidez vs. Ian McCall
Evan Dunham vs. Gleison Tibau
Jon Fitch vs. Demian Maia
Jay Hieron vs. Erick Silva
