Elton John’s “Rocketman” is headed for Cannes with Good Universe on board to handle international sales for the biopic.

Project has been in the works since 2011 with commercials director Michael Gracey having signed to helm in March. The screenplay is written by Lee Hall (“War Horse”) with Steve Hamilton Shaw and David Furnish producing and Elton John exec producing.

“Rocketman” will trace John’s life story from his childhood as a five-year-old musical prodigy.

“Director Michael Gracey’s vision for this movie is overflowing with everything that makes for great event cinema,” said Good Universe’s Joe Drake.

UTA Independent Film Group is representing domestic rights.

The deal was negotiated by Shaw for Rocket Pictures and Drake and Michael Meyer for Good Universe.
