WEEKEND RESULTS, NEWS & NOTES

Takeshi Morishima successfully retained the ROH World Heavyweight title over the weekend, defeating Jay Briscoe on Friday in the Boston area, then Roderick Strong on Saturday in Philadelphia. Results are below.

Because Samoa Joe is no longer with ROH, he instead appeared Friday for Mountain Wrestling Association in Kentucky, teaming with Chris Harris. Results are below.

Meanwhile, Low Ki defeated AJ Styles on Saturday in Jersey All Pro to retain the JAPW heavyweight title. Samoa Joe won a four-way on the show as well. JAPW will be back in action on July 21 with a Royal Rumble-style match, and the winner facing Low Ki later in the show. Gail Kim also will debut on the show.

In Pro Wrestling Guerrilla in California on Sunday, El Generico won a four-way over Bryan Danielson and Davey Richards and Kevin Steen to retain the PWG title. Results are below.

NWA Upstate in New York had its big “Continuing the Tradition ‘07” show on Saturday with several Japan guys on the card, and Jimmy Olsen defeating Brodie Lee in a “3 stages of hell” match to close the long show. Results are below.

I attended a fun-but-short NIW show in rural Wisconsin on Saturday. The final match, an 8-man tag, mixed lots of comedy & silliness and good action. Results are posted below.

Hoosier Pro Wrestling boasted a crowd of 230 for its show on Saturday featuring Ricky Morton. Results are below.

Drake Younger won the CZW “Tournament of Death” on Saturday in Smyrna, Del., defeating Brain Damage. The last match was a 200 lighttube death match, where competitors had to escape the ring, avoid lumberjacks, get the trophy, and get back in the ring. The whole show sounded way too bloody for my tastes.

In other news…

IWA Mid-South has canceled its show for this Friday in Rock Island, Ill. The show on Saturday, featuring the IWA-MS debut of Kamala, is still on.

UWF has announced a three-day tag tournament, featuring 10 teams, July 19-21. Team 3D is the first announced team. Visit www.uwfusa.com for all the details.

And you can always reach me with your indy results at chrisjvetter@hotmail.com. I request that you remember to say date, location (including building, city & state!), and full name of the promotion.
