Adam Pearce defeated Brent Albright Saturday night in Puerto Rico
during the IWA Puerto Rico show to become the first post-TNA NWA World
Heavyweight Champion. Bryan Danielson served as "Special Enforcer"
during the main event. Of course Bryan Danielson was supposed to
compete in this match against Brent Albright but suffered an eye
injury in his ROH World Title match against Takeshi Morishima last
weekend, forcing him to bow out of the tournament. Pearce, who
Danielson defeated to make it to the finals of the tournament, was
awarded Danielson's spot in the tournament instead.

So basically if Bryan Danielson wasn't injured he would be the new NWA champion?

Exactly! He was destined to become the NWA Heavyweight Champion as soon as they took the belt back from TNA. The whole tournament was just to build up the title and Danielson got screwed because of the injury...
