IWS Un F’N Sanctioned Detailed Preview

Since 2003, Un F’N Sanctioned has traditionally been the best Quebec wrestling show of the year, voted as such every year except in 2004 when there was no show by that name. It is the show where great matches happen, where great guests come to Montreal and where newcomers look to make their mark. This year, we have two special guests. First, Joey Ryan of the California promotion PWG and the tag team That 70’s Team from the WSX promotion as seen on MTV and a huge ratings success on Quebec’s Musique-Plus. Also making a Montreal visit is Joey Mercury, making a visit to the IWS before (rumour has it) he makes his return to the WWE – just like Sabu did at Un F’N Sanctioned 2006.

Looking to make a name for themselves this year at Un F’N S is The Maritimes Express. At Hardcore Heat 2008 Josh Aero and Marko Estrada attacked 2.0 while Jagged and Shane Matthews were celebrating victory over Sexxxy Eddy and the Evil Ninja. That victory should have given 2.0 a title shot at the IWS Tag Team Titles, but Jagged and Shane did not even bother to make that argument so intent are they at getting revenge on the upstart Maritimers.

We all know about sports Cinderella stories; we all know about David and Goliath, but how many underdog’s have had to worry about being shot in the head, stuffed in a trunk and buried in a New Jersey swamp? Franky the Mobster hasn’t quite got around to that threat level yet, but he is getting close. Franky is incensed that his partner in the Rock and Roids Express, Twiggy, chose to defend IWS their tag team titles last month without him, chose El Generico to replace Franky and then lost a thrilling match at Hardcore Heat 2008 to Cheech and Cloudy.

In Twiggy’s defence, he had no choice. The IWS Title Committee forced Twiggy to defend the belts, and with Franky nowhere to be found, Twiggy chose his trainer El Generico as the best replacement.

Bringing the tag division full circle, Cheech and Cloudy will be defending their titles in a Ladder Match against the former tag team champions, the Super Smash Brothers and the team that cheated to strip Player Uno and Stupefied of their belts in the match eventually won by Twiggy and Franky the Mobster. That team being the ersatz Italians, the supposedly Untouchables combination of Dan Paysan and Jimmy Stone.

At the risk of doing the unthinkable and offering Jimmy Stone a compliment, let me just say that Jimmy Stone is the only guy in this match who hasn’t demonstrated in the past a suicidal disregard for their own safety when it comes to ladders which can only be good news when it comes to the chiropractors of the five other men and the quality level of their match for the fans. It also makes Jimmy Stone my pick for the man who will be able to climb the ladder and get the belts after everyone else eliminates themselves from the match.

EXesS will be looking to be the first man to complete the IWS Triple Crown at Un F’N S. Having previously won the IWS Title and the IWS Tag Team Titles (with the Green Phantom), the IWS’ resident bully is looking to add the IWS Canadian Title to his resume. Only one man stands in his way: The suddenly red-hot Shayne Hawke who is looking for his first IWS Title belt and revenge against the man who broke his orbital bone earlier this year.

PWG and WSX veteran, Joey Ryan is coming to Montreal looking to offer one of his famous mustache rides to IWS Manager Lollypop, declaring after seeing her on an IWS DVD brought to California by Kevin Steen that she was “MILF-tastic!” There is only one obstacle to Joey Ryan’s planned Montreal erotic rendezvous: Lollypop’s husband, the IWS’ resident shovel-wielding maniac “paranoid” Jake Matthews.

Since leaving the WWE, Joey Mercury has had his best matches on the indy scene against one man: IWS Champion Kevin Steen. The two men have pushed each other to be better wrestlers and better competitors. The only problem for Joey Mercury is that he has had great matches against Steen, but he has never beat Mr. Wrestling. What better place to get that first win than in Kevin Steen’s hometown, and take some gold from Mr. Wrestling in the process?

Un F’N Sanctioned is known for one more thing than great shows, great matches and great guests. It is known for the most hellish match ever devised by the twisted mind of men, the fiendish, and violent Fans Bring The Weapons. This year, the sadistic Beef Wellington spitting in the face of his fans and his boss, PCP Crazy F’N many has done something that no participant in FBTW has ever done, planned for the match; trained for the match; assembled a team to win the match. Beef has been wrestling with Sexxxy Eddy and the Evil Ninja since July. Manny’s team of himself, the Green Phantom and Viking while three of the most successful hardcore brawlers in Quebec history, not to mention three former IWS champions, but the three have never been in the ring together as a team even once.

Many other promotions have FBTW matches. What makes the ones at the IWS stand out, besides the crazed ingenuity of our fans, is that in other promotions FBTW usually happen in the context of hardcore tournaments. In the IWS, FBTW is the ultimate grudge match, the best and final way to settle scores.

This match is no different. Beef hates Manny as the results of grudges stemming from Beef’s stint running the IWS behind the scenes and hates Viking for Viking’s lack of gratitude after Beef made Viking a star. Eddy hates Manny because Manny is the one that brought Eddy into the world of hardcore wrestling and made Eddy a star, a star that could only get cheers from the fans through self-mutilation. The Evil Ninja hates everyone equally, but hates Manny, Viking and the Green Phantom because beef pays him to hate them more and the Evil Ninja is the ultimate mercenary.

On the other side, Manny has grown to hate Beef after months of Beef’s persecution and attacks; Viking hates Beef for driving him out of the IWS last year. As for the Green Phantom, twice he has had chances to win the IWS Title stolen from him by Beef Wellington and his goons who attacked the Green Phantom convinced that he was going to come to Manny’s help. This has become a self-fulfilling prophecy on Beef’s part, because if the Green Phantom wasn’t involved before, after being attacked twice he is definitely involved now.

This many grudges, this much hatred can only be settled by the ultimate grudge matsh and in the IWS that mean that it’s time for FANS BRING THE WEAPONS and a match that can only be described as UN F’N SANCTIONED.
