"Father" James Mitchell Speaks!

The weather outside might be getting colder this December, but there’s one man who can heat things up. Straight from the depths of hell, it’s the Sinister Minister himself, Father James Mitchell, in a huge 76 minute ClubWWI.com shoot interview no wrestling fan should miss.

Jim is known for his unique look and character but also his love of the industry. In his 76 minute shoot with James Guttman, Mitchell talks about the intricacies of the business including the dying artform of managers and promos. From his days in Smokey Mountain to ECW to WCW to TNA, Father Jim has seen it all. He talks at length on ClubWWI.com about his admiration for men like Billy Graham and Dusty Rhodes (including doing Dusty promos in third grade…and a Dusty impression on air). But also about learning how to truly find his own voice in the industry and overcoming situations where he might have to do or say something inconsistent with his character. Topics include the first time he was handed a script, Vince Russo, what TNA allowed him to do, “Evil, Evil, Evil,” accidentally shooting on Wahoo McDaniel early in his career, what Wahoo told him Gene Anderson would have done in that situation, and more.

One topic that James Guttman started the interview off with was life after wrestling. Many fans have been wondering about Mitchell’s situation following TNA. Jim is enjoying semi-retirement and continues to, “literally sing for my supper as I’ve done for the past eight years.” When JG says that many stars are happy to have the chance to step back after many years on the road, to an extent, the Sinister Minister agrees:

"Actually, it's kinda good to get out of, as they call it, the wrestling bubble. But I miss being in the bubble. Wrestling has always been a life-long passion of mine since I was a little child. But it is good because you do get to do a little reflection. You also get to kind of stand outside of it and kind of change your priorities a bit. See how the rest of the world lives. So that's kind of refreshing."

One subject that Guttman typically asks ClubWWI.com guests is about dropped feuds and angles. Mitchell speaks about many including the unaired and original reason for his feud with Raven, his history with Raven, and more. But one subject that James asked Mitchell about was the dropped feud between Abyss and Judas Mesias. It seemed to have all the steam in the world and then just sort of petered out. Father Jim explains that Judas came in with a bang but then got injured very quickly. When he returned, there was a lot of attention but due to contract issues, it was all over.

Guttman says it seemed to end flat without a transition and Mitchell agrees. Dropped angles and logic holes are a pet peeve of his. In his ClubWWI.com shoot, Jim talks about one of those logic holes in the Mesias-Abyss story, talking to Jerry Jarrett about them early on in TNA, Kane’s burns, and more.

"Well sure. There's always a thought on my part. I'm open to everything . If WWE calls me, I will certainly listen to their offer. And if it is mutually beneficial to both of us, you will see me there. As of right now, it does not seem like WWE is real big on wrestling managers. That could change. I don't know, but the trend that I'm seeing is that Vince (McMahon) is not into the wrestling manager. So, you know, if the opportunity arises, I'll consider it."
