    Default Ulrich pelted with pies

    Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich was pelted with custard pies during a concert in California - to celebrate his 40th birthday.

    The musician will reach the landmark age on 26 December (08) and the rest of the band decided to mark the occasion during their final gig of the year at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California on Saturday (20Dec08).

    During a break in the show, the band's crew ran on to the stage and chased Ulrich with armfuls of gunge, finally trapping him and covering him in custard and party string.

    Frontman James Hetfield then helped the stadium audience sing Happy Birthday to his bandmate.
