JOSE MOURINHO is on the verge of quitting Inter Milan.

The ex-Chelsea boss is under huge pressure at the San Siro and is considering his options.

Real Madrid is a possible destination for the Special One, should he decide to leave Italy, although Manchester City would also be keen.

Mourinho has suffered increasing criticism after his side lost to Manchester United in the Champions League last 16 this week.

Italian champions Inter appointed Mourinho in the hope that he would lead them to success in Europe.

But the 2-0 defeat to United on Wednesday means Inter have failed to improve on Roberto Mancini's record over the past two seasons.

Mourinho's rocky relationship with Italian media has also lead to questions over his future.

And yesterday Inter fans protested against his management and called for him to leave.

They left a banner outside the club's training groung which read: "Portuguese joker, go away from Milan."

Mourinho only joined Inter at the start of this season and he was backed financially by president Massimo Moratti.

He signed splashed out around £40m on Ricardo Quaresma, Mancini, Sulley Muntari.

But Quaresma and Mancini have both failed to impress and Mourinho has built his team around Mancini's squad.

Inter lead the Italian league but it is in Europe where they are desperate for success.

Under Mancini they reached the quarter-finals twice in the last four years.

But Moratti wanted Mourinho to be challenging for the title.
