Carmelo Anthony is set to sign a new deal that will tie him to the Nuggets until 2012.
DENVER (AP) -- The Denver Nuggets on Saturday offered star forward Carmelo Anthony a maximum contract extension, which would be worth $79 million over five years, the Rocky Mountain News and The Denver Post reported.
The newspapers said Calvin Andrews, Anthony's agent confirmed the figures and said they had accepted.
NBA teams began negotiating with their players today, though contracts cannot be signed until July 12.
The deal would pay $13 million the first year and tie Anthony to the team until 2012.
Anthony, who averaged 26.5 points last season and was named to the All-NBA third team, is entering his fourth season.
