SVEN GORAN ERIKSSON will be approached this week about becoming the £3million-a-year part-time boss of Jamaica.
The Jamaican government are backing their FA with the cash to bag a new coach.
A Reggae Boyz insider said: “This is serious. The Prime Minister will spend whatever it takes to get Jamaica into the World Cup finals.
“Sven is one of a number being considered and will be approached by the end of the week.
“If he indicates he is interested he will have a good chance of getting the job.”
Caribbean chiefs are happy to pay big money for the right man and would allow him to work for a club as well.
That would appeal to Eriksson, who is said to fancy a return to club football after stepping down as England chief.
It would also be a huge relief to the English FA who will have to pay Eriksson’s £5m-a-year wages until 2008 if the Swede fails to land another job.
The Jamaican FA believe attracting a world name like Eriksson could dramatically boost sponsorship of the national team and help the island’s tourism.
