For those who recently blazed through hordes of zombies in Resident Evil 5's Africa, but may have been too young to see how it all began back in 1996, here's your chance. Capcom has announced that Resident Evil: Director's Cut will be released on the PlayStation 3 through the PlayStation Network on Thursday, May 28, for $9.99.

Resident Evil: Director's Cut, as the name implies, was a slightly (although only very slightly) modified version of the very first PlayStation game, released in September of 1997. "Scenes come across as super cheesy by today's standards, but for the hardcore, these are things that make the game pretty endearing," admits associate product marketing manager Matt Dahlgren in the announcement post. "It's definitely a classic to say the least."

Honestly? Those scenes were pretty cheesy even by 1996's standards. But for those who never played the game, this is if nothing else a chance to see where such classic terrible videogame lines like "The master of unlocking" and "You were almost a Jill sandwich!" come from. Oh, Barry, we hardly knew ye.
