Ubisoft Delays Splinter Cell: Conviction, Red Steel 2, More
Leading off with news that Ubisoft's sales are down 51% in the first quarter (which ran from April 1, 2009 through June 30, 2009) as compared with the same period last year, Ubisoft's first quarter sales results have been released today. In addition to the failure to meet sales targets, Ubisoft has announced delays for four of their upcoming games. Splinter Cell: Conviction and Red Steel 2, both originally scheduled to release in the third fiscal quarter (October 1, 2009 - December 31, 2009), have been pushed back to the fourth fiscal quarter (January 1, 2010 - March 31, 2010). Two other titles have been pushed out of the current fiscal year altogether -- Ghost Recon 4 and I Am Alive, which were to be released in the fourth fiscal quarter, will now released at some point in the 2010-11 fiscal year. No specifics were cited for any of the delays. With first quarter sales failing to meet expectations, you can bet Ubisoft didn't make these moves simply because of the bloated release period later this year.
