Activision Stock Drops Amid Fears Of StarCraft II Delay
As we head into the 2009 holiday season, one of the biggest question marks has been StarCraft II. Blizzard has said that they are doing their best to have it out this year, but analysts aren't so sure it will happen. And now investors are getting jittery.
Marketwatch (via The Escapist) is reporting that Activision Blizzard has seen its share price drop 14 percent over the past month, due in large part to fears that StarCraft II will be delayed into the next year. According to Brean Murray analyst Jess Lubert, the prospect of a 2009 release is looking increasingly bleak.
"The beta testing for StarCraft hasn't started yet. If it starts in August and takes 5-6 months, then launching the game this year is next to impossible," he said.
Activision has already delayed Raven's shooter Singularity, and Blizzard is well-known for delaying their games until they are ready. With the open beta still missing in action, it seems as if Blizzard has hit unexpected delays in getting it out to the public.
If StarCraft II is indeed delayed, it will join not only Singularity, but BioShock 2, Bayonetta, Red Steel 2 and Splinter Cell: Conviction. Until the official announcement arrives though, we can still hope that we'll be giving our lives for Aiur before the year is out.
