ATLANTA (AP) -- Atlanta Falcons tight end Alge Crumpler, a three-time Pro Bowl pick, could be limited in the preseason as he recovers from shoulder surgery, general manager Rich McKay said Tuesday.

Crumpler had the surgery in late February, but the arthroscopic procedure was not made public until Tuesday. The Falcons open training camp on July 27.

McKay did not say why the surgery was kept private for so long.

"I don't see there being any problem," McKay told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I'm sure we'll bring him along at the right pace. We'll watch him, but he'll be OK."

Crumpler set career highs with 65 receptions for 877 yards last season. He caught five touchdown passes and set a team record for the most catches by a tight end.

Crumpler is the first tight end to lead the team in receiving yards and receptions in consecutive seasons.

Crumpler, 29, had the labrum and rotator cuff in his right shoulder repaired after catching a touchdown pass from Falcons quarterback Michael Vick in the Pro Bowl. He also had arthroscopic knee surgery following the season.
