Ok, so the more we watch the phenomenon that is Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson, we realize that he is much more Kevin than Kimbo.
He entered “The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights” house with an enormous bull’s eye on his back, however has managed to win over his peers and fans alike with his down-to-earth swag.
“They respected me. They probably talked crap behind my back, but they respected me,” Kimbo said of his popularity inside the “TUF” house. “I knew that all I could was work my ass off and get better so I could handle my business when the time comes.”
His focus stems from a common source that provides motivation for millions, however most never thought that this thuggish street fighter-turned MMA teddy bear would be driven by the same factor . . . family.
“I’m doing what I do to take care of me and my family, and to put food on my table,” Slice said. “I have three girls and three boys (ages 3-17) to take care of.
“They are not from the same female. They are living with me, under my roof, under my watch, under my care. I am responsible for them. The three babies still don’t understand what I do. They are still in diapers and I am making bottles for them. But the three older ones are enjoying this more than I am.”
It’s refreshing to see Kimbo take responsibility for his offspring. Many professional athletes don’t do more than break off a monthly check. However, the thought of seeing Kimbo change some dookie-filled diapers and heating up baby bottles absolutely blows my mind.
