As reported earlier, Shane Carwin noted on his official site that the rescheduled UFC 108 title bout between he and champion Brock Lesnar is off, at least for the near future. Yahoo Sports! is reporting that Lesnar has mononucleosis, which would put him out of training for at least a month, and possibly as long as six weeks.

Lesnar was originally suspected of having the flu, or a case of H1N1, which forced him to drop out of his title defense against Carwin at UFC 106 on Nov. 21 in Las Vegas. The bout was rescheduled as the main event of the jinxed UFC 108 card, however will now either be moved even further, or Carwin may face another opponent in the meantime.

“We’re still trying to figure it out and I’m really not sure where any of it stands right now,” UFC President Dana White stated.

UFC 108 has seen a number of potential main events fall by the wayside due to injuries, as Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort and Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua were both penciled in for the event, only to be dropped due to injuries to Silva and Machida, respectively. The card is currently headlined by a light heavyweight showdown between Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Silva. A clash between heavyweights Cain Velasquez and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira was added to the card this week.
