Forrest Griffin was able to avenge his controversial UFC 59 split-decision loss to Tito Ortiz in ironic fashion: by defeating "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" via split-decision at UFC 106 tonight.

“This was a great fight to come back,” Griffin said after the fight. “We’ll have to do a third."

The first two rounds were close, and FightLine.com scored both rounds for Ortiz. However, Griffin completely dominated the third round as Ortiz appeared completely gassed and was unable to mount any offense.

Both fighters were entering the cage tonight injured, as Griffin noted that he broke a foot in training. That gave Ortiz an opportunity to start rattling off the injuries he had, which included fighting with a black eye - which he said was a result of a cracked skull - as well as a bulging disk in his neck. The crowd booed Ortiz while he was going through his injuries, prompting Griffin to interject.

“You guys are booing, but you train to fight people and you get hurt training,” Griffin said in his usual dead-pan style. It was hard to tell if he was defending Ortiz, or mocking him for complaining about his injuries.

Ortiz, however, finished by giving his opponent his props.

“It sucks losing, but Forrest was the better guy tonight,” Ortiz stated.
