The critically-snubbed, high-selling co-op shooter, Kane & Lynch is getting a sequel, as Square-Enix and Eidos will be bringing Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days to the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 next year.

We didn't like Kane & Lynch very much. Neither did most of the rest of the gaming press (Joystiq). In fact, the game's review on GameSpot and the ensuing fallout is largely cited as the reason for the unjust firing of the game's reviewer and then-GameSpot editorial director Jeff Gerstmann. Regardless of what critics have said, the game did quite well for itself in the marketplace, selling nearly 1.5 million copies even without PC sales being included (VGChartz), a feat Square-Enix is hoping to replicate with Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days, a sequel to the infamous game that was officially announced today.

While little has been revealed of the gameplay mechanics, the embedded videos and included press release seem to indicate that the game will take on a much different visual style, including multiple forms of amateur video. In the age of YouTube, this could be an intriguing hook for the game, especially if they fix the gameplay flaws of the first.

GamePro will keep you updated on Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days as we hear more about the game. The official press release follows.
