Premier League footballer Ricardo Fuller was arrested on suspicion of assault after an incident in a Stoke-on-Trent nightclub.

The Stoke City striker was held during the early hours of Sunday following an incident in the JFK Nightclub in Trinity Street, Hanley.

A spokesman for Stoke City, who beat Blackburn 3-0 at home on Saturday, confirmed the arrest.

Police said a 30-year-old man was arrested and later bailed.

Stoke City said it would not release any further comment.

The Jamaican international, who joined Stoke City in August 2006, is due to report back to police next month.

A spokeswoman for Staffordshire Police said officers were called to the nightclub at about 0100 GMT.

She said the 21-year-old victim suffered minor facial injuries and did not need hospital treatment.

She urged any witnesses to contact police.

Mr Fuller was in the team that defeated Blackburn on Saturday.
