Shamed golf star Tiger Woods will apologise for his infidelity and speak about his past and plans for the future, his aides have said.

The announcement came in a statement from the golf star's agent Mark Steinberg and his spokesman Glenn Greenspan.

Woods will speak to a small group of friends, colleagues and close associates on Friday at the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

"Tiger plans to discuss his past and his future and he plans to apologise for his behavior," Steinberg later said.

"While Tiger feels that what happened is fundamentally a matter between he and his wife, he also recognises that he has hurt and let down a lot of other people who were close to him.

"He also let down his fans. He wants to begin the process of making amends and that's what he's going to discuss."

Mr Steinberg said reporters would be allowed at the meeting but no questions would be allowed.

Woods, aged 34, has been on an indefinite break from golf since since revelations that he had been unfaithful to his wife in a string of affairs.

The father of two has not spoken publicly since crashing his car outside his Florida home last November.

The incident, in which he suffered minor injuries, sparked a wave of reports about women who said they had slept with Woods.
