The Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill director won't be directing the HL movie - "What HL movie?" we hear you cry

We hear so many game-to-movie rumours in the course of a week that sometimes we're just about past caring which franchise Uwe Boll might ruin next.
However some intriguing salt from the rumour mill sprinkled out over the weekend - courtesy of US games site GameSpot - which suggested that not only was a Half-Life movie now almost a cert, but that one Quentin Tarantino was in line to direct it.

To be fair GameSpot did deliberately flag the story as a big fat rumour, but suggested that it had news courtesy of a fabled Hollywood insider who almost definitely (or was that certainly or maybe?) had hot info that the Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction director had been pestering the guys at Valve to let him do the directorial duties on a big screen version of Gordon Freeman's adventures.

Well Valve's very own Doug Lombardi swiftly put paid to the rumour saying: "As much as we'd love to meet with him, we've never been contacted by Mr. Tarantino nor his people. We've had many conversations with folks in Hollywood, but have no commitments for an HL movie at this time."
So rumour swiftly scotched, but you'll note Lombardi's comments that Valve had 'many conversations' with Hollywood people, so there's obviously been some discussion about the project. While Lombardi admits there's no immediate plans for a big screen Freeman, it's certainly a prospect that could happen in the fullness of time and with HL's rich source material, we dare say it could be a cracker. With Peter Jackson involved with Halo, surely it's only a matter of time before a Half-Life movie gets beyond the rumour phase?

So let the river of speculation and innuendo run forth and feel free to indulge in fantasy directorial/casting duties in the comments below.
