According to Mike Johnson, the word backstage is that people in WWE are loving CM Punk's work on commentary so far. Apparently most of the inside jokes were ad-libs from Punk but it's unknown how long WWE will allow him to keep making them.
At this point, Punk is expected back in the ring next month.

I hope the WWE let's him continue to make inside jokes for the remainder of his time on commentary. The stuff he's said so far has been gold. The Alex Riley DUI reference, the Rio De Janeiro reference, the KKK reference, and so on.

He's made ALOT of inside jokes, but the KKK one wasn't anything racist or whatever. During Kofi's match with Sheamus in the KotR tourney, Punk said... "King Kofi Kingston. Has a nice ring to it. Not so nice with the initials though."

I am liking Punk on commentary, hopefully they won't script him and will continue to let him ad-lib though.
It will be good to see him back in the ring soon as well.

He did a good job, and was much more neutreal/fair than I expected. He wasn't openly rooting for the heels, and the respect he showed King during the main event was admirable. With that, it has me wondering if WWE is going for a combo of Jessie Ventura/Gorilla Monsoon in the same guy with their commentators, rather than have him just be one or the other. Face ex-wrestler commentators seem to be so rare now.

I hope that Punk continues the way he is right now because he's great but I want him to come back to the ring and be a super heel again, maybe start a new SES on RAW?
