A 21-year-old track star who entered Columbia University on a full academic scholarship was found dead in a campus dorm room Sunday morning. Jessica Fingers of Monticello, N.Y., had been on a medical leave of absence following a stroke, but was visiting her boyfriend and friends at the university when she was discovered dead. The police do not suspect foul play, and the medical examiner reported that Fingers had "brain swelling consistent with a Methadone overdose and mixing alcohol and Xanax." Fingers' father says she did not have a drug problem and that any drug use she engaged in over the weekend must have been "experimental." He recalls her as "brilliant and focused ... just an incredible daughter."
