WWE Extreme Rules 2013: Brock Lesnar Will Destroy Triple H in the Cage Match

At next month’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view, Triple H and Brock Lesnar will go a third round.

After Triple H defeated Lesnar in a career-threatening match at WrestleMania 29 earlier this month, Paul Heyman challenged “The Game” to face his client for a third time, and on last week’s Raw, Triple H accepted the challenge for a rubber math.

This feud, of course, stems all the way back to SummerSlam 2012, when Lesnar defeated Triple H and broke his arm for a second time. As we know, that would lead to a not-so-anticipated rematch between the two at WrestleMania 29.

It was at the WWE’s biggest PPV of the year that HHH got his revenge by defeating Lesnar in a match that, like their first encounter, wasn’t as good as you might think it would be. All of those events have led to this: Lesnar vs. Triple H 3.

This has been perhaps one of the least exciting feuds and series of matches involving two huge stars in quite some time, and it seems like such a monumental waste of Lesnar’s limited contract to have him face HHH a third time.

But there’s a light at the end of the tunnel this time around. This will—barring something unforeseen happening—be the last match between the two, and the WWE figures to finally book this match the way it should: by having Lesnar absolutely destroy Triple H.

Since Lesnar made his in-ring return at Extreme Rules last year, he’s a very pedestrian 1-2. His only victory came at SummerSlam 2012, and his two losses came against John Cena at Extreme Rules 2012 and Triple H at WrestleMania 29, respectively.

Obviously, Lesnar needs a win now more than ever—as his reputation as an unstoppable beast takes a hit every single time that he loses. His Steel Cage match against Triple H at next month’s Extreme Rules PPV gives him the perfect opportunity to pick up that major victory.

Triple H got his big win at WrestleMania 29, a big win that he obviously didn’t need but a win that was inevitable, nonetheless. Now, it’s time for him to go away again, and Lesnar is the man who can make that happen.

We know that, in all likelihood, this will be Triple H’s last match in the WWE for a while, possibly until next year. Like Lesnar, he’s a “special attraction” wrestler these days, so he’s only going to show up here and there for major feuds and angles.

He’s going to be written off of TV soon, and since the WWE has screwed up this feud royally so far, it’s time to make up for that by having Lesnar beat the holy hell out of him at Extreme Rules and beat him in the process.

Yes, the WWE doesn’t always use logic when booking its storylines, but this is the most logical scenario in this situation. It is, in reality, the only option that makes any sense whatsoever.

Every time that Lesnar loses, he doesn’t just lose a match. He loses a lot of momentum, a little of his appeal and some of his ability to draw because it’s hard for anyone to want to watch someone who consistently loses.

Does the WWE realize that? Maybe. Maybe not.

But it has to if it wants to make the most out of Lesnar’s short and limited contract with the company, which it simply hasn’t done so far. A returning loss to John Cena, two lackluster matches with Triple H and a 1-2 record just isn’t the ideal way to book someone who’s supposed to be one of the most dominant guys in the company.

The WWE could easily erase—or at the very least minimize—a lot of these mistakes with a dominating and destructive performance by Lesnar at Extreme Rules. He doesn’t just need to win; he needs to absolutely dismantle Triple H in any and every possible way.

It won’t hurt Triple H, whose legacy is and has been intact for years now. But it will certainly help Lesnar rebound from what’s been a rough first year back.

The WWE can bill Lesnar as its biggest beast all it wants. Yet, if Lesnar doesn’t dismantle Triple H at Extreme Rules, all he’ll be is just another guy.
