Cheick Kongo has joined the ever-growing list of fighters released by the UFC, according to Alden Halpern of MMA Elite.
"I am sad to report that Cheick Kongo was released by the UFC today," Halpern posted on Twitter.
Kongo (18-8-2) was defeated by Roy Nelson most recently, falling to 11-6-1 in his Octagon career. The 37-year-old debuted with the organization in 2006, and went 4-2-1 in his last seven fights.
On his own Twitter page, the only post Kongo has made since news of the release was made public said, "LOL."
UPDATE: MMAjunkie.com's Steven Marrocco posted that, "Per UFC official, Kongo's fight with Nelson was the last one on his deal and he is unlikely to be re-signed at this time."
