Default Man challenges NYPD to a diaper fight

Man challenges NYPD to a diaper fight

    Posted on December 18, 2013
    Well, that just stinks.

smallunday night’s five-and-a-half hour police standoff in Charleston was triggered when an irate, 39-year-old dad hurled soiled baby diapers at the officers talking to his wife, authorities allege.

Police responded to the 16 Crabtree Lane home of Harlan Abramowitz at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a family dispute, and what happened next shut down the surrounding neighborhood until about 9 p.m.

According to police, Abramowitz’s wife went outside to talk to police, and after yelling at the officers, he ran back into his house and threw diapers from the door, according to an NYPD spokesman. He then grabbed his two young children — a two year-old girl and a 17-week-old boy — and positioned them in front of him to prevent police from arresting him before he could shut and lock the door, the spokesman said.

Abramowitz yelled curses at the officers through the door, and said, “Take your gun belt off. Let’s see how tough you are!” according to a law enforcement source.

Police blocked off Crabtree Lane and parts of Bloomingdale Road, as members of the NYPD Emergency Services Unit, Technical Assistance Response Unit and Hostage Negotiation Team responded. By about 9 p.m., Abramowitz was taken into custody and hospitalized, according to police. The children were uninjured, police said.

Police charged him with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, as well as obstructing governmental administration and disorderly conduct, though he has yet to be formally arraigned in Stapleton Criminal Court.

I think getting it with one of those would be worse than being shot. At least if you get shot you have a cool scar.
