Craig Siegel, chiropractor, property owner

Craig Siegel, 44, a Sarasota chiropractor and the owner/manager of Siesta Key Vacation Rentals, was arrested after dumping an entire bucket of pee on an uninvited county code enforcement officer. He’s still smiling.

According to deputies, Siegel says he caught the inspector sneaking around. According to authorities, the inspector was there to order Siegel to dismantle improvements made to the property without permits or inspections.

To that allegation, Siegel reportedly told Fox 13, “Over-regulation of the government is the bane of our society, that’s what I think.” As to the allegation of dousing the inspector with pee, Siegel says, ”That’s just an allegation,” and gave no further comment.

The construction situation came to the county’s attention after Denise Blair, also of Sarasota, reported that Siegel advertised his property as having 12 bedrooms, when it only has 5. When Blair realized that the house wan’t big enough for her needs, she asked for her money back. Siegel allegedly told her that he was not in a financial position to return it. This he reportedly said to her and 19 other victims around the country, who gave Siegel a total of $53,000.

When deputies informed a judge that Siegel made $173,000 in investment contributions in 2014, Siegel responded that his victims would “be taken care of 100 percent.”

Siegel is charged with battery on a code inspector during the performance of his duties, and fraud, among other things.

Given the look on his face, we aren’t sure he is taking the situation very seriously.
