Man wearing dress, cowboy hat and `surfing’ on car roof charged after police chase

A 29-year-old man from Dover, New Hampshire, was arrested after leading deputies on a 43-minute chase while wearing a cowboy hat, boots and a woman’s dress in a car painted with derogatory statements about law enforcement, officials said.

Aaron S. Jansen was arrested Saturday morning in Salina after a high-speed chase. A deputy clocked Jansen driving faster than 90 mph, authorities said. Jansen was able to drive around spikes that were set up at the junction of Interstate 70 and Highway 81.

He eventually drove into a soybean field and drove in circles for 40 minutes while officers set up a perimeter around the field, deputies said. Jansen threw blankets, CDs and other items out of the car. At one point, Jansen slowed down to about 5 mph, climbed out of the car and “surfed” on the roof, Sheriff Glen Kochanowski said.

Jansen was apparently yelling Bible verses at officers, making faces and flashing peace signs. He was pepper sprayed several times while he was inside the car, deputies said.

Jansen eventually surrendered and was charged with fleeing and eluding, obstruction, reckless driving and speeding.

He was also wanted on a warrant out of Dickinson County, where he is accused of spray painting “Help me” on the tailgate of a pickup truck, deputies said.
