JERSEY SHORE — The man accused in the death of an 18-month-old Jersey Shore boy alleges the fatal injuries were caused by a professional wrestling maneuver that did not go as intended.

Brandon Scott Hoffman, 20, of Jersey Shore, told police he meant to slam Bryson Shoemaker onto a bed but missed and the child struck his head on the hardwood floor.

Hoffman was watching boy for his live-in girlfriend, Sierra Shoemaker, the boy's mother, they said.

Hoffman told investigators Bryson would not go to sleep late Tuesday afternoon after his mother left for work so he took the child from a crib and began wrestling moves with boy, as he had been doing for several weeks.

The arrest affidavit states Hoffman told investigators he twice did a "rock bottom" move in which he picked up the toddler by the shoulders and legs and slammed him onto the bed.

He is alleged to then have done "The Last Ride" in which he placed Bryson backwards piggyback style with the intent to slam him onto the bed. He missed the bed and the boy's head hit the floor causing him to be unresponsive, the affidavit alleges.

Hoffman told investigators he did not call 911 because he was scared but had a friend drive him and the boy to Jersey Shore Hospital where police said Bryson was diagnosed with a possible broken neck and collapsed lung.

The boy later was flown to Geisinger Medical Center near Danville, where he died Tuesday night.

Arrest documents state Hoffman initially told police the injury occurred when he threw the boy into the air and failed to catch him.

He is charged with involuntary manslaughter, aggravated and simple assault, endangering the welfare of a child and recklessly endangering another person. He was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail.
