Glenn Frey, a founding member of the rock legends the Eagles, has died from an intestinal condition, the band said Monday.

Frey was 67 and had undergone intestinal surgery in November.

His condition relapsed just before the Eagles were scheduled to play at the Kennedy Center Honors in December.

He died Monday in New York City, the band said on its website. Frey died from complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia.

"The Frey family would like to thank everyone who joined Glenn to fight this fight and hoped and prayed for his recovery," a statement read. "Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide."

Frey was married to Cindy Frey. The couple had three children.

The statement of the legendary musician's passing was accompanied by the lyrics to "It's Your World Now," a song written by Frey and Jack Tempchin off the Eagles album Long Road Out of Eden.
