WWE NXT Takeover LIVE Coberage & Discussion - 28th Jan, 2017
Location: Freeman Coliseum, San Antonio, Texas
Announcers: Tom Phillips, Corey Graves, and Percy Watson

    Pre-Show:

We begin the coverage with the Pre Show and your host is Charly Caruso and she is joined by Nigel McGuinness and Corey Graves.

Corey Graves mentions that he will no longer be doing commentary for NXT because of all of his other responsibilities. Corey says Tom Phillips will be joined by Nigel McGuinness starting a week from Wednesday.

Nigel says it is sad that Corey is leaving, but Nigel says he is excited to be doing commentary. He says he has to keep Percy Watson off the ledge.

We see Shinsuke Nakamura arriving at the building earlier today.

Charly mentions Takeover in Toronto and how Nakamura won the title since the last Takeover.

Corey says Bobby Roode can change the landscape of NXT. Nakamura is aware of what Roode can do.

Nigel says the match comes down to to the Kinshasa. If Nakamura can hit it, he retains.

Kayla Braxton is in the arena and she is proud to be here on her first Takeover special.

We take a look at the Tag Title Match featuring #DIY defending against The Authors of Pain.

    We have a video package.

Charly asks which team has the upper hand. Nigel says it is the Authors of Pain. He does not think there is a Champion's advantage in this match. With Paul Ellering guiding them, he could be the difference. Corey agrees and says the Authors of Pain are unstoppable but Gargano and Ciampa need a flawless game plan.

Charly asks about how to avoid distractions. Corey says #DIY might have an advantage because they are used to being on the bigger stage. However, The Authors of Pain have Paul Ellering. Nigel says #DIY need to stick and move to deal with the Authors of Pain.

Corey picks the Authors of Pain but Nigel feels #DIY will retain.

It is time for the first 2016 NXT Award:

The Breakout Star of the Year.

The nominees are No Way Jose, Billie Kay and Peyton Royce, Ember Moon, Andrade Almas, and Sanity.

The winner is Peyton Royce and Billie Kay.

Corey says you cannot argue with that.

Billie and Peyton show up at the table and they are excited.

Corey and Charly mention their match later tonight.

Peyton says they are super confident. The odds are even but there will be a 100% chance that someone from Australia will walk out as the NXT Women's Champion. Nigel points out that only one can be the champion. Billie says it will be both of them.

The next award is the Match of the Year.

The winner is from Takeover Toronto: #DIY vs The Revival.

We go to Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder in the back. Dash says there was another team in the match so where is their plaque and interview? Scott says there was another half to that match. The Revival are the best team on the planet. They are excited they won match of the year, but they did not like the result. 2016 was the Year of the Revival.

Corey mentions that the Revival won Tag Team of the Year.

Scott says he could say it was a shock, but there is no other team besides the Revival.

Nigel mentions that they are not the champions so what will they do to get the titles back.

Scott introduces himself to Nigel and he says he will be focused on the tag title match. They have a vested interest in that match. After that match, they are begging for a chance at the winners.

Bobby Roode is asked about his mindset for his match against Shinsuke Nakamura. Bobby says this is what a real champion should look like. He has the looks, the ability, and the skill. He is a bonafide superstar and a main attraction. The only thing missing is the NXT title around his waist. Nakamura will not hand it to him. Nakamura said he would kick his head off and Roode says he would love to see him try. When all is said and done, Bobby Roode will walk out of San Antonio as the new champion and it will be . . . you know.

Kayla Braxton is in the crowd.

It is time to look at the Women's Title Match with a video package.

Ember Moon joins the panel to discuss the match. She says she is eager to see who wins the match. Ember is asked about how Asuka has to change her strategy in this match. She says Asuka needs to do a Seek and Destroy plan. She says Billie and Peyton are a cohesive unit while Nikki Cross is crazy.

Corey asks Ember what Asuka has to do to deal with Billie and Peyton. She says Asuka needs to knock one out and then tap the other out.

Nigel says it was a mistake for Asuka to ask for all three. Ember says Asuka will take advantage of the situation and get her hands dirty.

Corey asks if Ember is saying that Asuka is the only one who matters. Ember says that she thinks Billie and Peyton are a tough unit and Nikki is crazy.

Corey asks if Ember could face one of them, who would it be. Ember says she wants Asuka to win because she wants to be the one who takes down the undefeated one. Ember says she thinks it is different who she thinks will win. She says all four can win because they have the motivation to win.

Nigel asks what does Ember have that makes her the next Women's Champion. Ember says you need to follow her to see what happens.

Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano are told that their match in Toronto won Match of the Year. Johnny and Tommaso say that it means a lot to have won because the fans voted for them. He says the fans will help them to take care of the Authors of Pain. Tommaso says you do not underestimate the champs.

The next award is for Female Competitor of the Year

Nominees are Bayley, Asuka, and Nia Jax.

    The winner is Asuka.

Billie Kay and Peyton Royce come out and take the award. Billie says they will take this award now and the title later tonight.

The next award is Male Competitor of the Year

Nominees are Finn Balor, Samoa Joe, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Bobby Roode.

    The winner is Shinsuke Nakamura.

We are reminded that This Tuesday in Texas took place in this same arena.

Kayla Braxton is in the crowd. She introduces the Perfomer of the Year award and the winner is Shinsuke Nakamura.

Nigel accepts the award on Shinsuke's behalf.

We move on to the NXT Championship Match and we have a video package.

Charly asks about the message of the ticket. Nigel says Bobby was trying to get in his head, but that might not work for Nakamura. Nigel says Bobby needs to win early because the longer the match goes, the easier it will be to hit Kinshasa because Roode's defenses will be down. Corey says if Bobby wins tonight, he makes NXT glorious.

Charly asks who has the upper hand and Nigel says it is Nakamura because he has more big match experience. Corey says Bobby has also done a lot in the ring before NXT. Corey says Bobby wants people to know that he is as good as he says he is. Nigel says Bobby has something to prove. He says Bobby has impressed him.

Charly asks if this rivalry goes past tonight. Corey says people are not looking past the main event and neither are Bobby and Shinsuke.

Charly asks for predictions. Corey says this is too close to call, but he says he has a feeling that Bobby Roode wins. Nigel says he would love to see Bobby Roode win, but Nakamura is too quick for Roode.

They talk about the other two matches on the show.

A good NXT championship match, with Nakamura losing, hopefully he will be pushed up to RAW or Smackdown.

A good lead into the Rumble tomorrow.
