Takashi Sugiura took part in a press conference today, as he announced that he will be taking a break due to undergoing ‘atrial fibrillation surgery” (heart surgery).

Sugiura stated that he has been suffering from arrhythmia since 2011 and has been undergoing medical treatment ever since in the form of medicine. Though now the medicine that he has been taking is becoming less effective as time has gone by. Mainly he has suffered from dizziness several times while just training and his doctor has recommended surgery to be the next option.

The operation is scheduled to take place on July 14, but he will need at least a months rest before the surgery to keep from any blood clots from forming. The operation itself will only keep him out for a couple of months following. As he stated his intentions on returning to the ring in October. There should also been no hindrance on his training so he will do his best to return in top form.
