According to a report from Sports Illustrated, both WWE and GFW are making a play to sign soon-to-be-free agent Rey Mysterio Jr.

Mysterio is signed to Lucha Underground up until Season 3 finishes airing in September. He also has a “First Look Contract” with the El Rey Network which is believed to expire this summer.

He will then have to complete a 90-day no compete clause before performing for another promotion.

There is still no word given on when Lucha Underground plans to shoot the 4th season, leaving many on their roster frustrated. Should LU announce continued funding and future taping dates soon, the promotion might still be in a position to re-sign Mysterio.

GFW is said to really want Mysterio, especially considering what has been going on with the company’s current top star, Alberto El Patron, at the moment.

Another factor which could impact where Mysterio could land is his son Dominic’s future training. Dominic has begun training to be a pro-wrestler, and a developmental deal for him could be part of Mysterio’s contract negotiations with WWE.
