Former WWE creative writer Kevin Eck was a guest on the Wade Keller Pro Wrestling Podcast this week talked about the company’s discussions about having Justin Bieber step in the ring at Summerslam 2014.

The link to Bieber is that Big Show is friends with his WrestleMania 23 opponent Floyd Mayweather, who knows Bieber. The pop star was interested in wrestling for WWE and the creative team began brainstorming ideas for the potential match. They settled on a six man tag match that would have involved Bieber teaming up with John Cena and Big Show against The Wyatt Family.

Eck had some reservations about Bieber’s involvement, because he was getting bad press coverage at the time and it would have been risky to pair him with WWE’s clean cut poster boy John Cena. There was also some concern about Bieber getting in offense against The Wyatt Family, who were strong heels at the time.

Of course, the babyfaces would have gone over. Anticipating that the WWE Universe would not embrace Bieber, the plan was for Bieber to take credit for the win during the post match celebration and for John Cena to lay him out with an Attitude Adjustment.

Cooler heads prevailed and WWE instead went with John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar in the main event, with Brock kicking off his fourth WWE World Heavyweight Championship reign.
