FORMER NWO MEMBER SCOTT NORTON TALKS ABOUT HIS NEW PROMOTION

On October 3rd, Wrestling Weekly hosts Doc Young and Les Thatcher were joined again by featured guest, former two time IWGP World Heavyweight, two time IWGP Tag Team Champion and former member of the New World Order, Scott Norton. Wrestling Weekly airs every Tuesday at 8pm Eastern at www.wrestlingweekly.com.

Doc and Les welcome Scott again to the show. Norton tells a story about a rib which was played on him during his time in the AWA by The Destruction Crew (Mike Enos & Wayne Bloom). As Scott was snoring he was pushed out into the parking lot whilst he was asleep. When Scott Norton went to go over after Enos & Bloom he knocked on the wrong door and the other guy phoned the police on him. He continues by saying that ribs happen in other sports too and it’s just part of the deal and advises those breaking in the business to beware. Scott then mentions Nasty Boys, British Bulldogs as they are well known for their ribs. Norton states the greatest rib was by Colonel Parker. He filled up a garbage can with water and knocked on the Nasty’s room but they wouldn’t answer. When Knobbs eventually answered, the 56 Gallon drum of water then flooded the Nasty Boys. They said they were going to get Parker but went back into their room.

Les started in 1960 and was told stories when he started in the wrestling business in terms of ribs played on wrestlers. He then tells a story about Johnny Valentine who was threatened with a gun over a rib. Scott then tells another rib story, this time about the late Curt Henning which involved him driving away with a line attached to the luggage cart. Norton talks about the Warrior when he was in WCW. The n.W.o had to stay under the ring and Curt was eating laxatives and eggs then he went to the bathroom in a bucket. Scott then get on the phone and said you’ve got to get us out of here. It was so bad Scott Norton vomited and said forget about Warrior and get Henning. Curt then ran out and Dean Malenko gave him his bag and he just left. Henning went to work for Inoki (New Japan) and Scott said that they didn’t see Curt for another month. Norton emphasizes the rib Curt did was horrible and called it the ’all time stinker’. Scott states that Curt Henning was the greatest ribber in the business.

Les then says that next time Scott is on, he will talk about ribs from back in the day. Doc says that they should have a special rib show. Norton says he has got a bunch of stories, in his words, a billion of them. Doc states he will get different guests on for the show and have them tell their best rib stories. Scott says ask the Nastys about a Ice Cream Sundae they did in Europe one time. Doc says he doesn’t want to know! Norton is then asked about booking and his own promotion. He states that the production and sponsorships which he was told about weren’t true. Scott has contacted a lot of guys and has started up his own company called Wild West Championship Wrestling. The first show is November 4th , Norton continues by saying he has a heck of a card and is excited about it.

He is getting positive responses in terms of television and sponsorship. Les talks about getting into the independent scene in 1993 and was shocked how things were run. He say’s that wrestlers who have been involved in wrestling working for the bigger companies going into the independent scene will improve it. Scott agrees and says the WWE is the equivalent of the NFL. He continues by saying it takes time for newer promotions to succeed and it’s built on trust. Scott relates what he is talking about to his new company. Norton then states it’s easy to tell the truth . He respects people who are honest and states it’s important handle yourself properly and do business correctly. Scott Norton again relates this to his promotion and how he will conduct business. Les says this will be a plus for him.

Scott then talks about how he trusts the wrestlers he’s working with and they trust him and is on the phone constantly. Norton then states that when he tells you something it’s going to happen. Scott continues by saying he is taking a year or two off from Japan to focus on his promotion. Norton has a Myspace and this is the third day of his new company. He states that the arena has just being booked and Jonny Fairplay wants to be involved with the show. Doc says this will be good in drawing in the casual fans, Les talks about how Jonny Fairplay got heat on ’Survivor’ when the cast was reunited. Norton reiterates that Jonny is wild and Doc states that Fairplay has been on ’Wrestling Weekly’.

Doc wishes Scott luck with his new promotion which is Wild West Championship Wrestling. Les states they will be bringing Scott Norton back again and this time for 45 minutes next time. Norton says you bring him back as much as they want and Les talks about having some of the wrestlers that he is working with to be on ‘Wrestling Weekly’. Scott replies this would be great.
Doc concludes this week talking about the show he is promoting, ‘No Second Chances’ which is this Saturday at the Vincennes National Guard Armory in Vincennes, Indiana.
