UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor is "wanted as a person of interest" after he and members of his entourage attacked a bus and left fighter Michael Chiesa injured, a person with knowledge of the investigation told USA TODAY Sports on Thursday.

McGregor still was sought for questioning and no arrests have been made related to the incident. The person requested anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.

No warrant has been issued for McGregor's arrest, according to Lt. Tarik Sheppard of the New York Police Department's Deputy Commissioner Public Information Office.

That is something UFC President Dana White told reporters had taken place after an incident occurred as McGregor made an unscheduled appearance as part of UFC 223 media day at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Police were dispatched to Barclays Center around 1:36 p.m. ET Thursday and, upon their arrival, they were told McGregor and about 10 others "became irate and began throwing various items, damaging property at the location," according to police spokesperson George Tsourovakas.

Tsourovakas said officers were unable to locate those involved because they "fled the scene" before police arrived.

White told reporters earlier Thursday that there "is a warrant out for Conor McGregor's arrest and they are looking for him right now." Police said no charges had been filed as of Thursday evening.

Chiesa, who is scheduled to fight Anthony Pettis, suffered cuts to his face when objects were tossed at a bus that was at Barclays to transport UFC 223 fighters back to the hotel, White said. Chiesa appears to be the only person injured in the incident as police said there was only one individual transported to an area hospital for treatment.

White said McGregor and "approximately 20 guys" were let through the door of the arena and went down to the loading dock where fighters were boarding the bus. White said trash cans, dollies and bike racks were tossed at the bus, with one of the objects nearly hitting Rose Namajunas, the UFC women's strawweight champ who is slated to fight Joanna Jedrzejczyk on Saturday.

"This is the most disgusting thing that has happened in the history of the company," White said.

Chiesa’s coach, Rick Little, told MMAjunkie that Chiesa was “cut up” from shattered glass. Little, who was on the bus, also described what happened.

“Conor went bananas and put a beating on the van that we were in looking for Khabib (Nurmagomedov),” Little said. “A million security guards had to restrain him. Mike’s cut up now. He’s got marks on him, for sure. I don’t think too serious. Everything happened so fast, it was just like we got jumped.”

Chiesa was taken to a hospital for treatment of his cuts, according to White, who also said he didn't know if the fighter would be ready by Saturday.
