Baszler and Kai to collide for NXT Women’s Title


NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler will defend her title against Dakota Kai, who will have to overcome her dread of The Queen of Spades. Will Baszler overpower and intimidate The Captain of Team Kick, or will the challenger rise to the occasion and prevail in the biggest match of her career?





We begin with a recap of last week’s NXT and the situation between Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano.

We are told that Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano is too dangerous at this time so they will not be at NXT tonight. They will meet at Takeover Chicago in a Street Fight as long as the contracts are signed.

We are at Full Sail University and your announcers are Percy Watson, Mauro Ranallo, and Nigel McGuinness.

NXT Champion Aleister Black makes his way to the ring.

Black says ever since he won the NXT Title, it has been a trip. It has been life changing. There is some dispute over his next challenger in Chicago. He only needs one shot to take his opponent down. He only needs one shot to make his opponent fade to black.

Lars Sullivan’s music plays and he makes his way to the ring.

Lars says the dispute is over. Per William Regal, in Chicago, he will be your first challenger. You say it takes but one shot for your opponents to fade to black. Lars says for sixteen years, you have traveled the globe and every one of your opponents has faded to black. Now you are NXT Champion, but you have not faced anyone like him. There is no one with his strength, size, or dominance. You can ignore your emotions all you want, but you cannot ignore the reality of what is going to happen to you in Chicago. Lars says he will take everything that you have ever worked for and you are looking at the next NXT Champion, Lars Sullivan. You would like to think that you can do something about it, but you cannot do anything about it.

Lars grabs Black by the throat but Black with a forearm. Lars blocks Black Mass and hits Freak Accident on Black.

Lars stands over a motionless Black and holds the title belt until he drops it on Black.

We are back and we see a tweet from Candice LeRae about the announcement of the Street Fight between her husband and Tommaso Ciampa.

War Raiders vs George Hixon and Cody Vinson

Hixon goes after Rowe but Rowe with a head butt and forearm. Hanson tags in and he hits a double stomp when Rowe sends Hixon into the corner. Hanson with a cartwheel and clothesline and then he tags in Rowe who connects with punches and knees. Rowe with an exploder to Vinson followed by a splash from Hanson. Rowe with knees and Hanson with a bronco buster.

Rowe tags in and he gives Hixon a judo toss followed by a knee to the head. Hanson tags in and Hanson hits a springboard clothesline while Rowe hits a German suplex. Rowe tags back in they set for Fallout and get the three count.

Winners: War Raiders

We have a video package for the Women’s Title Match later tonight. Dakota says it has been her dream to be the NXT Women’s Champion.

Shayna Baszler says she has been breaking bodies for years.

We see the injury suffered by Dakota at the hands of Shayna Baszler.

We see Dakota’s return to the ring and Shayna intimidating her.

We see EC3 arriving at Full Sail today.

We are back and Lacey Evans is asked about her victory over Kairi Sane and her match against Kairi next week. Lacey is asked if she is ready. Lacey says the results will be the same next week because she will do whatever it takes to win. Lacey says it does not matter that Kairi won the Mae Young Classic because she has a right . . . a Lady’s Right.

EC3 vs Fabian Aichner

They lock up and EC3 with a knee to the midsection and then he sends Aichner into the turnbuckles. EC3 with a forearm but Aichner pushes EC3 away and connects with punches and a chop. Aichner with a back elbow and gutwrench suplex for a near fall.

EC3 sends Aichner to the apron and Aichner goes for a springboard move but EC3 pushes him to the floor. EC3 goes to the floor and Johnny Gargano makes his way to the announce table to get a mic and show that he has signed the contract for his match against Tommaso Ciampa at Takeover. Gargano leaves the ringside area and Aichner with a double jump cross body to the floor and he gets a near fall.

Aichner with a punch but EC3 with an STO and the TKO for the three count.

Winner: EC3

Bianca Belair says since she was naturally gifted as a child. She says that she has been good at everything she does. She has been the EST from the start. She was bred to be the best. She is from a family of trailblazers. Her great grandfather was the first African American electrician in North Carolina. Her grandfather has a Masters in Organic Chemistry and a PhD in biochemistry. She has a certain level she has to reach. She wants to continue that legacy.

She says she has played almost every sport. She was naturally better than the other kids, so she did the bare minimum. She would do enough to get a good grade, but not enough to excel. She was told by her parents that she needs to stand out.

College was never not an option. She worked hard to earn scholarships to college. She was All SEC and she was an elite college athlete. She graduated with two degrees. She went back to her mediocre lifestyle after college but then she started to do Crossfit. She says it teaches you how to be comfortable feeling uncomfortable.

Since she first step foot in NXT, she knew this is where she needed to be. She did not train in Japan. She learned from ground zero and she has surpassed everyone. She sees the looks from the other girls. She is not ashamed to tell everyone that she is better than the others.

Bianca says she does not have time for anyone else. NXT pushed her to be the person that she was supposed to be. She says that she is going to shine.

Ricochet vs Chris Dijak

Dijak misses a boot and Ricochet with punches to Dijak. The referee warns Ricochet. Dijak with an Irish whip but Ricochet kicks Dijak and hits a rolling drop kick that sends Dijak to the floor. Ricochet with a suicide dive but Dijak grabs Ricochet by the throat and hits a choke slam on the apron. Dijak with a springboard elbow drop for a near fall.

Dijak goes up top and misses a moonsault when Ricochet moves. Ricochet with a rolling elbow and a kick followed by a jumping axe kick. Ricochet with a suplex and he holds on and rolls through into a deadlift suplex. Ricochet pulls Dijak into the corner and goes up top and hits a 630 splash for the three count.

Winner: Ricochet

After the match, Ricochet gets on the mic and he says the Velveteen Dream likes the spotlight. Ricochet says he hates to admit that Dream deserves it. He can do it all. Ricochet says when that spotlight is shining on you, it shows how good you are and it also shows your flaws.

Last week, the spotlight might have been on you. It did not show how good you are, it showed how much of a punk you are.

At Takeover Chicago . . .

Velveteen Dream’s music plays and he makes his way to the stage.

Dream says it is fair to call him a punk. Tonight is your spotlight. Last week, it was their spotlight and while you showed everyone how incredible you are. Dream showed that anything you can do, the Dream can do better.

Ricochet asks Dream if that is what he thinks. The only think he sees is Dream up on the stage showing how much of a coward he is. Ricochet says if you want the spotlight, come take it.

Dream makes his way to the ring but then he turns around and says as epic as you and me would be, the Dream can only think of one spotlight big enough to contain the two of them. The Dream will see you in Chicago. When that spotlight hits you and hits your beautiful face, you will truly know that anything Ricochet can do, the Dream can do better.

Ricochet does a flip out of the ring and lands on the ramp. He tells Dream to show him.

Shayna Baszler vs Dakota Kai for the NXT Women’s Championship

Kai backs into the corner and she flinches before Baszler kicks her in the leg. Baszler pie faces Kai and kicks her in the leg again. Baszler is warned by the referee and she punches Kai in the midsection. Baszler stomps on the leg. Baszler stands over Kai and she tells Kai to kick her. Baszler works on the leg using the ropes. Baszler kicks Kai in the leg again. Baszler continues to work on the knee and manipulates the ankle and heel. Kai with kicks to the back of the head but Baszler stomps on the ankle and it bends in an unnatural way.

Baszler tells Kai to kick her and Kai with a punch. Baszler with a kick to the chest and then she mounts Kai and connects with forearms. Baszler with an ankle lock and Kai tries to get to the ropes but Baszler pulls her into the center of the ring. Kai is able to get to the ropes and Baszler kicks the hand and then pulls Kai back into the center of the ring and applies the ankle lock again.

Kai with an enzuigiri and forearms to Baszler. Kai with a scorpion kick and a bicycle kick. Kai with a Yakuza Kick and a running face wash to Baszler. Baszler applies the Kirifuda Clutch and Kai taps.

Winner: Shayna Baszler

After the match, Baszler reapplies the Kirifuda Clutch.

Nikki Cross comes to the ring and she pulls Baszler off Kai. Nikki screams at Baszler and Baszler does not know what to do. Baszler takes her title belt and leaves the ring.

Shayna goes up the ramp, but Nikki follows after her and takes the title belt into the ring with her.

Baszler tells Nikki to give her the belt back and Nikki puts it down in the ring and tells Baszler to get it. Baszler goes for the belt and Nikki gets it before Shayna can.

Nikki says YOU . . . ME . . . TODAY

Nikki tells Dakota that she is the referee.

Nikki gives Dakota the belt.

Nikki with a kick and hits the Purge. Dakota makes the three count.

Nikki leaves the ring with the title belt and celebrates in the crowd.
