Dunne and Gibson Battle in Brooklyn for U.K. Title

On the heels of a monumental NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV, the NXT Universe will be in for a treat as WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne defends his title against 2018 U.K. Championship Tournament winner Zack Gibson on this Wednesday’s WWE NXT, emanating from the sold-out Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.





- The show opens with a recap of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn.

Bianca Belair vs. Deonna Purrazzo

Some mat wrestling to get us started with a couple counters from both wrestlers. Belair evades Purrazzo, hits a dropkick, throws her into the ropes, Purrazzo tries for an arbar early, Belair gets out of it. Belair with a gutbuster, cover, two. Belair with some trash talking as she stomps down on her opponent's back. Full-nelson locked on Purrazzo, Belair with a spear into the corner. She charges in again, nobody home, shoulder tackle on Purrazzo, couple elbow drops.

Belair with power slam, goes for a standing moonsault, but Purrazzo moves out of the way. Bicycle kick and a low dropkick lands clean by Purrazzo. She brings Belair down, goes for the armbar, but Belair gets up and sends Purrazzo into the ring post. She gets Purrazzo up in the torture rack position, plants her to the mat, cover, and that will do it.

Winner: Bianca Belair

- Clips of Velveteen Dream defeating EC3 from TakeOver: Brooklyn are shown.

- Backstage, Cathy Kelley asks Dream what this win means for him. Dream puts his crown on Cathy and asks her what she's doing on Wednesday. He says she can get on the WWE Network at 8pm and find out like everyone else.

- Backstage, Mike Rome talks with EC3 after his match. EC3 says they are two guys seeking the same thing, but on that night he was the better man. EC3 says he's here to get victory after victory, and being the top one-percent it's a mindset. He notes all the matches he's lost, they aren't over until he wins and that's the kind of mindset he has. Rome asks about the parking lot attack on Aleister Black and what EC3 saw. EC3 says it was dark, and he saw a lot going on (William Regal, medical staff, other wrestlers). EC3 thinks it's pretty obvious that Lars Sullivan is the one who attacked Black, especially after Black broke his jaw in the match they had.

- Clips shown from TakeOver: Brooklyn of Moustache Mountain taking on Undisputed Era and also Ricochet defeating Adam Cole.

- Backstage, Ricochet is interviewed after winning the NXT North American Championship. He says after 15 years of hard work he's finally got there. Ricochet says Adam Cole was just running and hiding like he said previously. Roderick Strong and Kyle O'Reilly stroll up saying Ricochet doesn't need to run his mouth about Cole. Pete Dunne also comes up and gets the tag team champs to bounce. Ricochet says "thanks, mate." Dunne replies he's not Ricochet's "mate." He just doesn't like those other guys and Ricochet is carrying around a piece of gold that he wants.

- Thanks to a surveillance video, Nikki Cross was apparently watching what went down from a rooftop during Aleister Black's parking lot attack.

- Vignette for Zack Gibson who says he's hear to conquer sports entertainment. We see clips of his previous matches. He says he's not here for applause and plans on being the best wrestler in the UK.

- Clips shown of Kairi Sane winning the NXT Women's Championship against Shayna Baszler at TakeOver.

- Backstage, Cathy talks with Shayna Baszler after her loss. Baszler says Kairi didn't beat her, she lost. Kairi's skill didn't get the win, she lost. Bazler says she's the better fighter, no Kairi.

- Clips shown of Tommaso Ciampa retaining the NXT Championship against Johnny Gargano in a Last Man Standing Match.

- Clips shown of SummerSlam weekend and WWE Superstars being involved in events all over the NYC area.

- Middle Riddle was in the crowd for TakeOver: Brooklyn and has signed with NXT.

Pete Dunne (c) vs. Zack Gibson (NXT UK Championship)

The two trade some holds to get things started, Dunne able to back Gibson up to the ropes, pauses, and Gibson hits a double thrust to drop Dunne. Dunne hits a running forearm, twists Gibson's fingers and arm, he then stomps the side of Gibson's head. Back and forth slaps, Dunne with a double-wristlock with the body scissors. Double crap by both guys and they start slapping each other in the face, crowd loved that spot and get a "Bruiserweight" chant going.

Gibson drops Dunne over the top rope, hits a key-lock driver, and does a little bit of taunting. Gibson with some kicks to Dunne's head, forearm hits, and yanks hard on Dunne's arm, cover, one-count. Gibson maintains wrist control, Dunne tries to chop his away out of it, gets dropped to the mat, cover, two-count. Gibson continues to keep the momentum, forearm land, but it seems to just anger Dunne who smacks him down to the mat.

Dunne scales the turnbuckles, flips, hits a standing dropkick. Gibson tries for a german suplex, Dunne lands on his feet, kick to the head, x-plex into an armbreaker, but Gibson gets to the ropes. He heads out to the floor and Dunne hits a moonsault down to the floor, clearing out the challenger. Back in the ring, double foot stomp, powerbomb. Gibson recover, trips up Dunne, hits double knees off the second rope, cover, two. Gibson bleeding a bit from his mouth.

Dunne blocks Gibson's thrust, puts his hands down on the mat and stomps on them, kick to the head, both with clubbing forearms and then dropkicks sending both men crashing to the mat. Crowd with an "NXT!" chant. Dunne also bleeding a bit from the mouth. Gibson nearly gets Dunne to tap out, but he ends up having to use his teeth to grab the rope to break the hold. Dunne is able to recover, snaps Gibson's fingers and hits bitter end for the win.
