Best of the Super Juniors Day 10, May 26th:

TAKA Michinoku has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to a knee injury. His opponents will be awarded two points.

B Block

Ryusuke Taguchi defeated Ren Narita. This was a completely serious Taguchi. Maybe now that the tournament is entering its final matches, he knows he has to keep winning. This match spent a lot of time on the mat. Taguchi kept trying for the ankle lock and Narita for his new sharpshooter variation. The finish saw Taguchi wrestle his way into the hold, drop an elbow on the knee and get the submission win.

A Block

Jonathan Gresham defeated Yoshinobu Kanemaru. Solid match here. Kanemaru controlled a lot of this as Gresham sold his ribs. Gresham went after the arm and built some momentum. Kanemaru hit a satellite DDT and a moonsault for near falls. Kanemaru tried to use the whiskey bottle, but Gresham locked him in the Octopus for the submission win. This now moves Gresham up to 8 points, which is great for his debut tournament.

B Block

Rocky Romero defeated DOUKI. DOUKI jumped Rocky before the bell and had control until DOUKI went shoulder first into the ring post. Rocky went after the arm and tried for an armbar at every chance. He hit a tornado DDT, held on into a falcon arrow and then into an armbar. DOUKI hit a beautiful Widows Peak into a pin. The finish saw Rocky go for a Kimora and transition into a cross armbar for a submission win.

A Block

Marty Scurll defeated Titan. This was a very good match. Scurll grounded Titan, and then began flying around, which got Brody King involved. Titan took him out with a big dive. There was some excellent back and forth with Titan flying more than he has in the tournament thus far. Scurll hit his half and half suplex. Titan hit some nice strikes and used an inverted figure four. Scurll hit a big lariat and a side Package Piledriver for a near fall, and then hit Black Plague to pick up the win and give Titan another loss.

B Block

BUSHI defeated Bandido. Another good match and another strong win for BUSHI. There was some good fast paced wrestling, with Bandido looking very good again. He used his power again too. BUSHI tried for the apron DDT, but it was blocked and Bandido hit a big dive. BUSHI hit a Destroyer for a near fall and then immediately hit MX to get the pin.

A Block

Shingo Takagi defeated Tiger Mask IV. The wiley veteran Tiger played possum and goaded Shingo into an armbar, and was able to throw Shingo off his game. Tiger threw everything he had at The Dragon. He hit the double arm suplex from the top, the Tiger Driver and made his best attempt at getting a submission with the reverse double armbar. Shingo blasted him with Pumping Bomber, but Tiger kicked out at one. Shingo finished him with Last of the Dragon.

B Block

YOH defeated El Phantasmo. ELP launched an attack outside the ring to start this and dominated the match. He started to get cocky, which allowed YOH to get back into it. He went after the arm, the same arm that Rocky Romero used to beat him in his previous match. There was some good stuff in the last minute with YOH playing the underdog. He countered CR2 and caught ELP with a pin to score a big upset win.

B Block

Robbie Eagles defeated Will Ospreay. This was another match of the tournament contender from Ospreay and another incredible performance from Eagles, who has been the breakout star of the tournament. This was a long match with some incredible displays of athleticism, while also telling a story, the story of the knee of Ospreay. Ospreay has become a master storyteller, and his knee played into everything he did. Eagles hit a jaw dropping West Coast Pop. There were big dives from both and all sorts of excellent counters, playing off his well they know each other from meetings in Australia. The spot of the match saw Ospreay land on his knee out of a top rope rana from Eagles, which hurt his knee more. Eagles hit a springboard dropkick to the knee and went for the Rob Miller Special.

El Phantasmo got involved here to help his Bullet Club partner, Eagles. But he was doing it for his own benefit in the tournament. After a ref bump, he hit Ospreays injured knee with a chair, and Eagles, who has wrestles as a babyface for the entire tournament, reluctantly took advantage and locked on the Rob Miller Special for the submission win.

A Block

Taiji Ishimori defeated SHO. This match has a hard time following the previous match and it was another big Ishimori match that fell flat. It was a long match that felt long. There were some good moments, but overall it just didn’t click as a main event. SHO showed some incredible displays of power at times and Ishimori showed his quickness, but his neck was a problem. Something that really seems to be hampering his performances. There weren’t really any gripping near falls and it didn’t feel like there was any sort of story being told. There was a good struggle as SHO battle out of a LeBelle Lock. SHO built to hitting the Shock Arrow, but Ishimori escaped and landed the Bloody Cross to pick up another win.
